grmph !

Just popped out the shops in the german sat in 5mph traffic in the high street and there's 3 plod cars parked by the side of the road, pulling cars over. (Vehicle tax check I think) then I get pulled and told to drive up onto the kerb. Which I refuse coz I'm not buggering my front spoiler or wheels doing that ! So why have they pulled me - not wearing my seatbelt. Which of course I deny. Blah blah accident - crash - head thru windscreen. Er not a 5 miles an hour I wont. Anyway can't be bothered to argue it anymore so £30 fine - big deal at least there's no p[oints involved. Then they check everything on the car - number plate too small (big deal - nothing they can do about that it would seem) didn't have my licience on me (must try and find that !! ) so I've got to produce every document under the sun for them now !

NEvermind gatso - what a ridiculas waste of time pulling people that are sat in traffic for not wearing a seatbelt - got to say - really that it should come down to an individuals choice really. OK clunk click and all that has saved lives, but really this is just a obvious revenue generating afternoon for Herts police.

End of winge.

Guess what just tried to pay the fine by credit card and they only work from 9am to 4pm !! Nice

yep parking on the kerb is an offence - well at least a parking offence.

Getting bored of being pulled over at the moment. I'm averaging 3 times a week at the moment, whether it's in the car or on the bike !

No at the end of the day I wasn't wearing my seatbelt - that's not mypoint. More of the fact that in the location where they were doing it - it wasn't going to prevent anyone having an accident and injuring themselves. It's not going to stop me wearing my seatbelt when I'm pottering around town.

re number plates - not sure. TO be honest it's only about 12" wide and the lettering is only 1.5" which is way under. But any bigger and it interferes with the air flow on the front spoiler. Actually the rear plate is also too small - but not as obvious

Again it's one of those things that plod generally don't bother with. Might be different if I was in a RS turbo hackign around on a friday night in SOuthend !

Just look at the alternatives - they could go out and catch car theives ,or burgulars, or other real criminals, but that involves the use of a brain and some effort so they pick on the motorist to keep there quota's up..........

U know it's true

If the plate doesn't meet DoT requirements it's upto £1000 fine...if teh BiB can be bothered with the paperwork...

Why didn't you have your seatbelt on?

It only takes two seconds to put on and should be an automatic reaction when you get in the car.

Only yourself to blame IMHO

I think you can also lose the number if it is a cherished plate.

Would also be quite interested to know too. I wouldnt drive anywhere without one personally....value my own safety too much (am sure the BiB on the site could confirm that for every 'miraculous got thrown clear would be dead if wearing a belt story' there are literally hundreds the other way?

oh, and where in Herts are you that they're doing random checks?! Just in case

Not going to harp on.....
I have attended many RTA'S, some at low speeds some a lot quicker, one chap exited via the windscreen, smashed his face to bits, managed to scalp himself on the smashed glass, wasnt going that fast either (according to witnesses)...
Cant get too bothered about fining people for not wearing seatbelts, would prefer to carry a dossier of pictures with me. (Not allowed though, contravention of human rights...)
One way to get a face lift though..

The point is that it's an obvious revenue drive for this month - or conviction rate or whatever. They were in the same spot today. As yesterday the traffic was doing no more than 10 miles an hour (standard for that stretch of road) A 10 mile an hour shunt is only going to damage your bumpers - most of the impact is going to absorb by them anyway. Er hence It has nothing to do with educating drivers that wearing a safety belt is in fact a good idea. If that was the case the would actually talk you thru the scenario in the event of an accident. As u said.

Ever see any of the Aussie TV adverts for Drink Driving, safety belts - now those would make you think twice.

Anyway on a lighter topic here's a proper accident 120mph - barrel roll - 9.4g crash. A 5 point harness with arm restraints saved any injury.

If you got fined for not wearing a seat belt - then you mustn't have had your belt on.

I know when I get in the car, regardless of how far i'm going to travel, I always chuck the belt on - its second nature.

Unless your a delivery driver, then whats your excuse for not wearing it. IMHO, you were caught out doing something you wern't supposed to be doing and now your having a rant blaming everything except yourself.
