Refurbing starter - where?

Fitted a new starter motor yesterday and thought I'd get the original refurb'd. Anyone got any recommendations?

I had my original "Tilton" one refurbed at "Midland starter motors" in West Bromwich, West Mids.

Just aswell really, as the "new" one I bought off ebay lasted about a fortnight.

The refurbed one's going well still.

I bought an Ebay special last year too, failed on second start, I got a replacement F.O.C. but couldn't see the point in fitting the thing so stuck the original Tilton back in and it's been fine ever since but has been becoming troublesome of late.
Anyway thanks for the recomendation.

I could recommend a place on the South Coast near Brighton, but I'm guessing it's a stretch. Post again if you want me to dig out the details.

It's a company called CCM on the Tidy industrial Estate, Ditchling Common.
I went there last month with mine and it came back like new, within just three days, a touch more than £100. It's a rough looking place, but they know what they're doing. They had a starter in there at least as big as I am!

Cheers for that. I'd trust a place like that more than an ebay special or a Tilton £300+ item.

I think the duff ebay one's in my loft somewhere.

Same as you, it cost me £253, and I thought about sending it back & getting it swapped, but I'd rather pay the refurber to put some decent components in it, and keep it as a spare.

I realise I ought to point out that my starter is not specifically for a TVR. What it is is a bit of a special Bosch one, fitted only to the 911 Carrera, and the 959. It's a preengaged type, with a funny engagement mechanism.

I'm sure they would not be phased by anything starter or alternater related as they do allsorts of wierd stuff (busses/boats/monster quarry trucks). On the other hand I must stress that my experience with them was not TVR related.
