Doh!

Can anyone lend assistance with this:

PC connected via D-Link Cable Wireless Router to Cable Modem (Telewest)using LAN cables - Internet Access No Problem.
Wireless Router set up for DHCP
PC IP Address: 192.168.0. etc.
Laptop IP Address: 192.168.68. etc. - cannot connect to the Wirless LAN

I connect to 2 other wireless networks, one at my house & one at my office.

Before trying to to connect to this WLAN, the TCP/IP Setting were automatic for the general tab (home WLAN connection) & user configured for the alternate tab (office). With these settings, I could connect to the WLAN but no internet access. The IP address was the same as the office settings though & no internet access.

So now I am stuck. Any help gratefully received.

you need to change the IP of your laptop to be 192.168.0.*

edit* just saw you use dhcp. the wireless isn't set to a fixed IP is it ?
check dhcp is enabled on laptop card.

Yep, tried that but then the wireless network connection has a X though it & says no connectivity furious

I checked the D-Link website for support. Like a George Dubbaya Game Plan!!

When TCP/IP set to auto for both general & alternate tabs, get get a X for connectivity. When the alternate tab set for the office, get connectivity but no internet. When general tab set to 192.168.0....., no internet.

Even tried disabling DHCP on the Router config - no dice furious

sounds like with your original setting, it did have wireless connection jjust the DNS server was not specified.

if it was me, my first course of action would be to change to original config, type
ipconfig /all and see what is returned
something like
Dhcp Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : Yes
Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.44.41.160
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.44.41.100
DHCP Server . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.44.41.100
DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 194.168.4.100
194.168.8.100

if all that is ok, type ping (ip) not webpage to check dns is ok.

I IP address set when I have selected 'auto' on the general tab is the same as the alternate tab (i.e. for the office - IP 10.13.42.6 - Subnet 255.255.255.0 - Gateway 10.13.0.254 - DNS 62.244.176.176

If i set the alternate tab to auto, the details are: IP 192.254.68.200 - Subnet 255.255.0.0 Gateway & DNS not shown.

DCHP & Autoconfig are YES for all instances.

????

Firewall is disabled

I can connect OK using LAN (cable connection). For some reason, the wireless does not seem to be getting an assigned IP etc from the router. There is absolutely no support anywhere that I have found for the DI-524 furious

What a crock of shite.....it was the security settings. It was set to WPA-PSK by default. Changed to WEP & it was OK. Amazing how the manual offers tips like 'turn router off then on again' rolleyes
