It's not the first car to be re-badged to make it appear higher up the marque food chain than it actually is. It's always struck me as a bit desperate, TBH.

Easy enough to replace the normal badging if it otherwise floated your boat, I suppose.

Not even slightly tacky or shit compared to that monstrosity that Graypaul have just sold. A Black GT3 tiptronic with wheels that stick out at least 1-2" at the back. Some stupid er bought that?

"Is this not the best looking 996 - GT aero package including rear spoiler and graphite GT3 alloys."

You're right. It's not.

regardless, people should appreciate the things they have and not try and make believe believe its something its not to feel better about themselves. Not being able to afford a real gt3 and accepting it is better than being a tt.

"...graphite GT3 alloys."

Aren't they just sports classics that have been painted? How are these specifically GT3 wheels?

So there we have it, the pistonhead massif turns popular belief on it`s head.

Suddenly the 3.2 Carrera Supersport one of the most sought after cars of the line (and certainly more expensive than std body) becomes undesirable as a would be turbo look sheep in wolf`s clothing. The 964 celebration also gets binned for the same reason, the 993 C2S & C4S are just some wanna-be frustrated turbo owners who couldn`t quite make the jump..... hang on a mo the C4S is the holy grail of 993 ownership and good examples still change hands for £40k. 996 C4`s line up unloved in the classified for 25% less than their "non dressed up" standard cars.

You like the look of the GT3 but could really do with saving £20k, could use rear seats and to be honest aren`t really that fussed about losing your fillings on the way to work.

Not everyone wants to heel & toe it on the way to Tescos or has any desire to do trackdays. If we are all going to pull rank should I look down on "normal" Porsche owners who don`t compete in Porsche motorsport and then if they do still look down on them if they don`t compete in 24 hour races, the mecca for Porsche motorsport.

Live a little & don`t take life so seriously, that is a stunning looking car, particularly with the graphite alloys set against the silver body (and yes a typo - sport classic, not GT3) a real "of the moment" look with even the sport classics mirroring the look of the BBS alloys on a cup car.

Keep smiling

I think it is just the badge at the back that rankles, Henners. If a C4S was badged 'Turbo' then that would be a bit sad, n'est ce pas?

People should be free to have their car in any way, shape or form they like, and snobbery should have no place in the enthusiast fraternity. It is just the preposterous posing that comes with people rebadging their cars that annoys. I personally used to love the 'M5' badged 525i variants with full M bodykit and a single exhaust pipe. It meant my Lotus Carlton would have a good breakfast that morning

ditto sir

The badge is embarrassing - that's all; remove that and put on proper GT3 alloys and it would look lovely. Swap the gearbox and I would even recommend it!

That's all well and good but I wonder how the conversation went when you were bidding on it? If I turned up at a dealer with a "lookalike" I'd expect to hear how I should have left it alone, how one never gets any money back for extras or modifications because it makes it a niche car. It'll be hard to sell on sir, sharp intake of breath...

The badge - it`s a hard one I can see why they are fitted, I can also see why people would think it wrong.

The alloys - Ideally I would want the BBS alloys that mirror my race car so the sport classics sort of give that feel.

The gearbox - If all you`re doing is pottering around going to work & back then the tip box, particularly in a 996 is ok. I think a lot of people dismiss tiptronics out of principle, people who then buy them are lothe to go back to a manual. We price tip / man as the same & it`s down to personal choice.

Nothing against the body kit on my part - I like the look of that. The alloys, too. I don't evn mind them in graphite, and the overall silver/grey colour scheme is fine by me. But the GT3 badge in combination with the standard looking suspension, AWD and a Tip? Come on. Don't tell me you didn't give this guy a bit of a ribbing when you were negotiating.
