Ive just finished a re-installation of my entire system, something which I try to do every 6 months because of the amount of crap I transfer on and off of my hard-drive

So Ive just finished installing all the software I was using before and thought I would relax for an hour by watching some Red Dwarf...Ive been through seasons 1-6 (ep 1&2) but now Winamp is causing some kind of error (winamp has encountered a problem and needs to close - sorry for the inconvenience) and it will not play the Red Dwarf files that it previously had no problem playing before scratchchin

Im having to play them in Divx which im a bit pissed off with as I prefer Winamp due to the Graphic EQ

Ive tried uninstalling and installing a different version, but its no good its still cocking me about

Anyone any ideas???????

Drivers out of date - sound, graphic or motherboard?

Missed a codec?

This is what I use and can play anything from anywhere: www.free-codecs.com/download/K_Lite_Mega_Codec_Pack.htm

usual disclaimers re: if it focks your system don't come crying to me!

Its definitely not the Graphics or motherboard as everything is exactly the way it was prior to installation so Im edging my bets on a codec pack thats shagged

Not sure what the Windows verison is like, but the Mac version of VLC is pretty good: www.videolan.org/vlc/

Alternatively, get yourself a decent sized USB memory stick and spank £30 on this DVD player:

Just plug your USB memory stick or external HD into it and you can watch DivX stuff on your TV to your hearts content!

Would you Adam'n'Eve it

Sorted it right out

It must have been a corrupt or outdated version of the AC3 Filter codec pack

I see quite a few posts on this subject, i would recommend you do a google search for "GSpot" - no it won't give you anything dodgy, it's a codec identifying program, you pop in your media file and it will search your system for codecs, this is a very usefull program for seeing if your missing codecs, or what codecs would be used should you play the file in media player / elsewhere.
