Hey,
Anyone got an idea of the noise levels for a Chim 450 with Cat but with the baffles removed... Will it exceed 105dB?

see www.shpub.co.uk/tvrbooks/faq_noise.html

Also in the bible pages 155 to 157.

need someone with a noise meter or go to a track when there is an event on and get the car measured.

Most tracks will carry out a boise check prior to booking track day. However be aware I had a check done last November and passed but failed both the static and the drive by when I turned up for the track day.

IIRC a chim with a standard exhaust is under 105db ... just about (I recall being told this by someone who knows). If you want to be certain get some bolt on track day silencers from ACT.

I can tell you that an unofficial measurement of my sleeved 450 @ about 5800 rpm was 121db .... I know on track days they measure at lower RPM but even so its going to be a lot more than 105db! I dont think even track day silencers would bring me down to below 105db, although I am considering buying some and trying it out. When funds permit of course *sigh*

Unofficially had 116db out of mine at around the 5,500 rpm mark.

What difference would the ACT silencers make? - Likelihood of getting below the imfamous 105db with slightly less revs...

My Chimaera is VERY loud, no cats and no straight through pipes, I lasted one session on a 98db track day, didn't actually get a reading of how loud but 'way over' was the sound mans comment, fitted the ACT cans on and even though I was then a marked man for the noise Nazi's I enjoyed a full days track action. driving Counldn't believe just how much they quietened it down, look a little odd sticking out the back but did the job a treat. smile

My chim with a straight through sports exhaust measured around 110dB SPL (4500 rpm, 0.5metre, 45 degrees static test) at Castle Coombe.

I bolted a pair of ACT silencers to the pipes and they got it down to 97dB (the limit for the track that day was was 100dB SPL -- Phew!

My '450 with standard exhaust is around 97dB except for one bonkers occasion at North Weald when he said it was 101dB - the only time it's been over 100dB in 30 or 40 times measured.
