Good day pistonheads!

I have a 2.0L DOHC ford engine from a '92 sierra (Anybody know the model#?).

I don't have the key or the bit where the key goes (barrel?). The engine's not all rigged up yet but I rekon in about 3 monthes i'll be in a position to fire her up. The question is how do I make her run? As I understand it, the ECU gets a signal from something that is around the key barrel that lets it know that a coded key is being used to try and start it.

What options do I have available to me? I don't really want the immobiliser so any way of disabling it would be good.

Cheers!

no sierras were made with PATS so no worries there - if it has a factory alarm this has an immo built in but it's very very easy to go round

Ahh excellent.

There's two basic wiring harnesses, one for the engine with ecu, etc on. The other is the aux harness with includes, amongst others, the alarm.

I plan on making a new aux wiring harness so do I need to worry about the alarm/immo at all?

Thanks!

go to the alarm box under the dash to the right of the driver (held on with two push clips) if you need to bypass the immo cut off the two black/yellow wires - join them together - immo bypassed

you ain't seen me right?

Seen who?

Thanks for you help. Let me phrase my question differently and add a bit more info. Sorry about this .

A previous owner of my carcar stripped a Sierra as a donor car. from there I have (basically) two differnt wiring harnesses. One has the ecu, the coil, etc etc etc on it. The other has the lights and heater controls on it aswell as this box:

Asfar as I can see (I didn't gut the car so they might have broken something) there's nothing joining the two harnesses so how does the engine know whether to start?

If the aux harness is in no way used I don't need to worry about the alarm/immo, correct?

Thankyou again for your help!

Haha, no problem. I didn't pick the motor. I'll drive it 'til it breaks!

the module in the picture is the alarm controller I was talking about - to the right of the harness in the picture (at the module multiplug) you'll see the two wires to join if you need to

sierras are too early for PATS so you wont have to worry about the chip in the key scenario
