Changing the batery

After reading many horror stories of how changing the battery is a nightmare, I finally decided to attempt it yesterday.

A piece of piss!

It took me 25 mins from start to finish, with no setbacks at all.

The only fiddly bit was getting to the bolts holding the airbox on......

It was a numpty that created the myth that it is difficult (me!).
I only had probs getting it over the two welded nuts that sit proud of the body/tray. Some cars dont have those and/or it is easy if you lever battery over them.

Ah - that could explain it.

The battery that came out wasn't quite as tall as the one that went back in.......

lol, I put up a similar post a while back. Cleared a whole morning, arranged all my tools like I was in an operating theatre, wife on standby with coffee and plasters. All done in 20 mins or so, even managed not to lock my keys inside

Mine was a total nightmare, was a complete pain to get the battery to move out over the mounting fixing for the clamp and then the new one back in. That said, now I've done it once I think it'd be much quicker a second time.

Bracket thingy that holds the base of the battery in place - does yours have the annoying mounting nut?

yeah .. mine wont clear the nut ! - was told to undo it from inside footwell

cross that bridge when it comes ... DAS (98 4.2)

Mine has a "scar" where a grinder was used.

I'll bend a plate and make a bracket.

I'd prefer to have the battery properly secured.

I reckon there's space to get in a couple of rivet-nuts to provide anchoring points for the bracket.

You can lever the battery over the nuts using a large screwdriver. Just dont use the metal pipes as a rest for the lever action!

Exactly what I did after a couple of hours of head scratching.
