Just to clarify...

When pulled over by the BiB..what can they do / ask / demand...
What can't they...????

Similarly...if you are approached by BiB on foot...????

What must they do...??
What rights does the individual have in these scenarios???

That depends on the circumstances of the stop.

How long is a piece a string?.

A plethora of legislation mentions what Plod can/cannot do in various situations as mentioned by VH.

Depends.

Here is a simple guide that Sussex Police publish on stops and search, and another by the Home Office.

They are not allowed to hit you with wet fish, poke bananas up your nose, tickle you..........need I go on. A list of cannots is meaningless.

I'm sure there is a way of 'can' and 'cannot' being discussed without having to list every possible eventuality in the universe...rolleyes

I suspect some such method is used when in training...?

The link above is good...clearly the limits of the BiB's powers is not an area for discussion...

It would be easier to answer the question ' can they do this?' for a given query

At the end of the day a range of options are available ranging between doing nothing and killing you ( In Extremis).

To give any meaningful answer a set of circumstances is needed.

Gorvid, you mention training, well, I've just finished mine and I was taught to use the GO WISELY mnemonic:

Grounds
Objective
Warrant card
Identity
Station
Entitled to a record
Legal power
You are being detained

I suppose the key factor for what you're asking is the 'grounds' which as you might imagine can vary enormously.

Remember its different if you visit Scotland. We have our own laws.

If you drive at 31mph in a 30 and we suspect you are an English tourist we have the right to remove you from your car, beat you up (Scottish Mops may assist) burn your car and send you on the first train back down south.
