Just been going through all my kit in the safe and I have found a Cokin P160 Linear polarizer.

Can I use this on a digi cam or will it look funny? Guess I could try it.

Otherwise I will need to get me a Circ one instead. Think the cokin one is about £40 and fits lenses up to 77mm which is handy cause I have 2 that are 77mm

A linear polariser will screw AF and metering on most modern cameras, depends on the metering system design, it's all to do with the polarising effects of semi-silvered mirrors and prisms.

so, it's of feck all use on a modern AF camera . . .

Greg,
If you're doing landscapes with the camera on a tripod then you'll have time to make it work. Set everything up and take a shot, then turn off AF and fit the LP. Now take several shots over exposing by say 1/3, 2/3, 1 and 2 stops...that way you'll have allowed the correct amount of light in to cancel the transmission losses of the LP and have at least one perfectly exposed shot with the filter. Now you'll know which exposure adjustment was correct sp in future you'll only have to do one extra exposure...easy! And cheaper than going out buying a 77mm CP and adaptor rings for smaller lenses.

Martin.

Thanks Martin,

I thought that, but figure that its just simpler to get a circ one.

I use the cokin P series so the circ one is one size fits all (with the base plate) and is only £40 odd.

Anyone want a Cokin P LP?

The way you like spending money (and you've obviously got too much)I thought you'd get a Lee system
