Blue main beam dash light?

This has been a problem since i got the car but having done all the important mechanical stuff have only just got round to it.

When the lights are on dim/dip the blue full beam light comes on. When I put on full beam the lights comes on slightly brighter.

I just wanted to know if anybody has any ideas or if its a commen/simple fix before I go fault finding?

When fiddling about today I blew the instruments fuse, and saw similar things happening. I think there is a path through the beam light somehow (maybe via the headlamp diodes). So you might want to check the fuses, make sure the terminals are clean etc in case of a poor supply, especially if you also see weird things happening with the warning lights.

had a similar problem myself a few years back, turned out to be the column stalk contacts under the column shroud, the grease had dried and caused the contacts to stick causing the main beam to be partially on and ended up melting the light switch

I've had the same thing too. Worth cleaning up the switch before you get into some real diagnosis.
