All this talk of good/bad helmets and good/bad leathers, boots, gloves etc. What do you use?

Was: AGV V-Flyer, padding sinks quite quickly, a little echoey.
Now: Arai Astro, very good fit, steamy little bugger, have to fit a Foggy.

Was: AlpineStars SMX Plus Boots, very comfy, fiddly closure.
Now:Puma jobbies, feel like gloves so far, only bought yesterday(n.b. dont take credit cards to bike shows, eejit)

Was: Inherited Johnny Rocket leathers. Big and baggy, but very very well made
Now: Arlen Ness cowhide, survived the off nicely, will replace with Kangaroo, methinks, but very good fit. (n.b. switch to slimline tonic, you fat knacker)

Gloves: Horses for courses, currently using Frank Thomas Aqua Fore and am amazed at how good they are. Summer gloves are RST carbon and strategic leather jobs. AM waiting for the ones with the Knox scaphoid system to get a little cheaper.

Under the leathers: Nike pro and berghaus. Not pretty, at all, but very very warm..

Shoei XR-1000 in white. Used an Arai RX7RRIV for five years but got fed up with the rubbish visor mechanism. The Shoei is much easier to use.

Cold killers balaclava.
Cold killers inner gloves.
Dainese D-Tec waterproof gloves.

Hein Gericke Gore-Tex winter jacklet and trousers. Fit easily over jeans etc.

Alpinestars SMX-2 boots unless it's really wet when I use Alpinestars Roams.

Have a really old Hein Gericke Maxwell summer suit, which I love, but it's just about worn out. Fancy a Dainese M4 two-piece.

Helmet
- Current (3 years) – Lazer Revolution – Not that good. Padding ‘gave’ in first couple of months and fit is looser than I would like. A bit noisy and a little heavy.
- Best ever – BMW system 3.

Leathers
- BKS 2 piece. Expensive and heavy but superb quality, great fit and still looking good after 10 years of use.

Boots
- BMW Gore-tex. (Can’t remember the model name). Now 10 years old and still in great condition. Totally waterproof and a good comfortable fit.

Gloves
- Winter - Frank Thomas Gore-tex somethings! Now into second winter and so far so good.
- Summer – Can’t remember the make as I bought them last autumn and have not yet used them but they were Ride magazines best buy last spring.

Waterproofs
- Summer – Frank Thomas 1 piece suit to go over leathers but pack up small when not in use. I don’t expect my summer waterproofs to do more than two summers so I tend not to spend too much money. I’ve never found anything that stays waterproof for more than two years when it is constantly folded up into a small pack and bungeed to the pillion seat.
- Winter – Frank Thomas 2 piece Gore-tex lined suit. Can be worn over the leathers if required or over the top of normal work clothes. Totally waterproof and pretty warm.

Others
A ‘something-tex’ neck tube. Silk inner gloves for winter or cool summer days. Damarts best combinations for under leathers in cooler weather.

Shoei CX-1 (I think)

A* SMX Plus - done about 25k miles and still going strong, although they could do with a resole.

Hein Gericke Gore Sport gloves. Incredibly comfy but the thumbs are wearing through and ive finally conceded and bought some dedicated Richa Polar Storm (or something like that) winter gloves.

Hein Gericke Tribal two piece leathers. I look like a stick insect. With anorexia. Used only for track days!

Richa Le Mans goretex jacket plus Richa trousers for wet weather

Draggin' Jeans black cargo pants for dry riding.

Knox K2000 back protector

Currently Hein Gerricke textile jacket and trousers, HG gloves with extra liners, shoei radi 2 lid, altberg clubman classic boots.

Need new kit for the summer as it's all pretty knackered but current consists of sidi vert boots which have lasted about 6 years I think but are now pretty grim following a winter of use last year, akito leather jacket and trousers and alpinestars gp1 gloves which are still superb despite having now faded to green/grey. Need a new pair of boots and a 2 piece suit for the summer.

Are these any good? They look like a bargain and got a good write up in ride a while back.

I'm going to seem such a tart

1pc: Alpinestars Race Replica (grey)
2pc: Alpinestars GPU (blue)
Boots: Alpinestars Supertech (white)
Winter Gloves: Alpinestars Drystar Vega (black)
Summer Gloves: Alpinestars GP Pro (red/white)
Spine Protector: Alpinestars Tech
Lid 1: Nolan N94 (Stoner)
Lid 2: Arai RX7XX (black)

Previously had leathers by Dainese but, in my humble opinion, the build quality was utter crap. Had my 2pc Alpinestars since I started riding and it's still in excellent condition and very comfortable. Got the Race Replica really cheap and is supremely comfortable to ride in. Got the Supertechs and GP Pros because that's what Stoner uses and I'm that much of a cockhead to want to imitate (apart from the crashing).

Yeah, went to some chap on Oxfordshire somewhere. Went to see a friend and he wanted to take me out on his 996 but I didn't have my kit with me. Lent me his Race Rep and it was just perfect in every way, so I shopped around and found I could buy a new one for £707 (sounds horrific but they're supposed to retail for £1,499!) and bought that. It really is a quality item.

AGV S4 lid (side vents can't be closed so cold patches on back of head)

HG waterproof leather jacket (removable thermal lining and armour)

HG trousers (armoured knees)

(I forget the 'model' of the above, but both plain black, zip together, reflective traces etc. - £400 the two)

HG Pathan 2-finger gloves

Alpinestars plain black SMX G-Tec boots

Also still use an ancient (Akito?) leather jacket and gloves for 'nipping round the block'...

Finally retired the 25-year-old Centurion lid... but only 'cos I couldn't get a new visor for it hehe

Really good. Only complaint was that the rubber lettering on the collar fell off but superglue soon fixed that
