Hello people
We are coming down from Thursday to Monday, we have our minds made up about the campsite (BSJ) but for the regulars out there, we’re after some top tips for what not to miss:
* I understand the roundabout at Houx on a evening Friday is the place to be?
* In the form of evening entertainment, what is there? Is it possible to buy tickets for a certain venue?
* What else should we attend that are usually highlights of the weekend?
We’re going to use Beer Mountains survival guide on what to bring, and because of the campsite location, mini-moto’s and push bikes are on the cards…
We were going to book with 1st Tickets and buy two camping plots…
Cheers

You might want to book direct with the ACO, particularly for that site as they probably have space left. Should be cheaper, and Dover/Calais ferries are easy to book.
Friday night is the parade in the town, all the drivers go around the town on open-top cars. Worth seeing once, but it runs terribly late.

Practice on Thursday, natch.
Friday : Pit walk in the morning; the "Ceremony of the Hands" at 11 am in the Place St Nicolas in the centre of LM when last years' winners put their hand-prints in the pavement; The Classic British Welcome at Saint Saturnin; park at Indianapolis and watch the cars go by; drive round the bits of the circuit that are public (but take care not to get done for speeding).
Circuit nosh : Tartiflette (but your fellow campers will hate you in the morning), Grand Marnier pancakes (crepes), and merguez (spicy) sausages - but you'll be sick of these by the time you leave!
In town : Vieux Mans (the old town)

My " to do” for Le Mans
1. Meet up with a group of French TV guys (and Girls) whom I meet every year at LM
2. Go and have a few quiet minutes on the bridge where the opening of Steve McQueen’s film was shot.
3. Monday and Tuesday is spent in the drivers signing on area having coffee a few beers and just chilling.
4. Go pay my respects at the Canadian War Memorial
5. Friday, we have a nice lunch in town and spend time with the teams and drivers head back before the rush and have a quiet drink with the DFH guys…

I had tartiflette twice
It was just infront of the new hospitality area that overlooks the pit exit.

Must try harder next time, I love that stuff!
Hi BW,
reading this thread is getting me even more excited!!! I really CANT WAITTT!!!!!
Youve mentioned some good points, one I would recommend is seeing the race from different parts of the track and not just grandstand (esp at night)
There is a pretty cool viewing point at the end of the straight (76b below). I say this because last year we were there at 5 am or so, and its mad when there is a big gap inbetween cars, and all you can hear is the roar of the cars coming down the straight towards you slowly getting louder. And then you get the flash of the headlights as another batch come out of the woods and go past with discs glowing.
After that, we raced up to the main entrance and watched the sun come up by the dunlop bridge which was nice.
I filmed at these points, and you will see what you mean in my lm2006 summary video (link through profile).
All the usual points people mention are good too! You wont be dissapointed!!
Cheers.

Hi BigWig, If you can bear to leave the circuit on Friday head up just north of Le Mans to the village of St Saturnin for their 'Great British Welcome' The village sports fields and centre is given over to welcoming all Brits and their cars - last year they had about 4000 there and each year is themed - this year its 'Healeys at LM' Go to www.classicbw.org for more info
