Do Rovertec (or Rovertech?) in Leicester still exist? If so has anyone got their details? I've tried Google to no avail. Basically I've just got a SD1 which was apparently converted to V8 in the mid 90's using one of their engines, and I'm curious to find out if they keep records of jobs as this engine appears to of had some "work" done to it, the block shows signs of being decked as the punched engine numbers have almost been machined off.

lain rovertec was us!! v8 developments, and not a chance our records will go back that far!, if you could kind of describe what the car is and who's it was i may be able to remember!!

Hi Rob, I doubt you'll remember the car, it's nothing special. It is a D-plate Moonraker blue 2600 SD1 that seized it's cam in the early/mid 90's (I told you it was nothing special), and was fitted with a "Rovertec" engine, I've been told this be the late owners son, whose father passed away a few years back. That's all I know. I believe it's a 3.5, it runs on on twin SU's, and was previously owned by (I think) a Dr. Wood from Stoke on Trent, who bought the car in 1991 ready for his retirement, and ran the car until it was laid up in January 1997 (according to the tax disc). The only points of note are the engine runs an early type (remote reservoir) PAS pump, which looks really out of place on a late model SD1, and the manual choke is one of those red T bar pulls you get for fire extinguishers on race cars, its situated just in front of the (auto) gear stick.

The only real thing that got me thinking is I can barely read the engine number.

Any thoughts?

cor sorry lain like you said not a clue!!, at that time we where doing 3 to 4 v8 conversions a week from 2.6 to 3.5, all i can say is that the majority we did where stock 3.5 engines hope that doesnt disapoint you!

No not disappointed at all, the thought that it's a motor from a reputable source instead of a ex-Rangie scrap yard find is good enough for me. TBH with it standing for so long i'm half expecting the cam to of rusted over and need replacing before long...at which point I'll put the 4l lump from the Chim in, and see just what is inside the current unit.

Despite it running last night, it appears the fuel pump has now decided it preferred retirement, it's going to be a job to get this motor perfect but the basics are there!

The only time you're likely to see me racing the Chim is at Rockingham, I'm running in the MaX-5 series this season, hence the spare Chim engine

It's not the right series for me to be in this year. The MX5's will enable me to develop and improve much more as a driver than the Tuscans. I plan to return in 2008 with a much more cometetive all round package.
