Whatever happended to the Phoenix?
Discussion
Last I saw there was some major issues with the engine linked to the basic design being ever so slightly flawed
.
The remedial action for that was to be fully known/understood by Feb, I'm sure Ash will be along with an update at somepoint soon.

No doubt we will all be told that it was Autocrafts fault that there is a problem and that Paul at Austec will sort it, I believe that Paul will be tackeling world poverty and debt next.
No offence Paul, but Ash does tend to build people up a bit!
The Pheonix is a fantastic project, I sincerly hope that one day we see it on the road.

Tim, I agree that sometimes Ash can be a bit full on in what he says, I've been on the receiving end, but you need to see the engine for yourself to appreciate what's happened and the problems that remain to be solved. Ash might indeed say something along the lines of what you've said above, in his more lurid moments, but the important point is Paul wouldn't.
Steve.
Strikes me that Ash should be talking to Al Melling about using his new engine.
I can see it now:
"Hello, Mr Melling?'
'Yes'
"Would you like to show TVR what a real Melling powered car is like?'
'Yes'
'How much for one of your fabulous new engines, it's got to be less than I've paid to try and build this one?'
to be continued ...

Tim agree with your sentiments and as Steve says you really have to see it to understand what the problems are. I don't think Paul is interested in sorting the world out just now, or ever. He's got enough to get on with, my motor first
.
Not sure about the re-invent the wheel bit but I think a clean piece of paper may have been better.

The basic truth is, the engine was no where near ready to be assembled as I was led to believe by the previous tuner.
We've had to majorly re-work the bottom-end further, Paul is waiting for further CNC'd bits to turn up now. Plus 2 lots of pistons were wrong from the old tuner, and it doesnt look like they're interested in refunding, might have to chase this up through legal channels. In the meantime, Paul has recieved a new set of pistons from his German supplier.
Anyway, bottom-line is a shit load more work has had to be done, but the pain is nearly over. I think we're still dead-on-schedule for May.
I'm always optimistic, couldnt give a monkeys arse if that winds people up.
Building an engine to handle mega-horsepower for continuous road-duty is not a simple game, especially out of a swiss-cheese engine, sure I could have taken shortcuts and had this car up and running yonks ago, but then that defeats the objective. Why not just get it right first time? or at least do ALL that is theoretically possible.
Anyway, not long to go now.
I know there are people who go around chatting rubbish behind my/projects back, if only they had the nerve to spread rumours upfront in person so I could...
but thats not the way spineless weeds grow... nothing fishy going on, projects moving forward, and May is still on.
I'm not a frequent browser of online forums anymore, sadly I have no time due to recent business ventures, but in due-course we'll all have the phoenix running and doing her stuff to talk about.
So please hang with me fella's!
Pauls doing all he can to keep things rolling, but its personally my fault because I keep adding more theories into the pot, I'm not one to ignore a new theory, but hopefully the outcome will be far better than was originally estimated...

i do not know what this meant but it sure sounds exciting.
I googled 7:1 and:
"Chrysley Plymouth
1953-1954 changes under the hood of the 1953 models was the same 117 cubic inch L-head six found in Plymouths since 1942. However, this years horsepower came at an exact 100, an increase of three, thanks to a 7.1 to 1 compression ratio (up from 7:1). "
I am still none the wiser.
Good luck with project though.
