Mr Carter's photo-a-day
Discussion
Steve,
Did you risk life and limb for your art yesterday?

I must say I take a glance nearly every day and they are all fantastic.
So have you approached the Highlands tourist board yet to do a 2008 (pic-a-day) calendar?
(if not... why not)

We only get two trains a day, so I could eat and sleep before I got any hassle. (edit to add it's a 42 mile round trip to the nearest station... and it was todays pic!)
I'm hoping to get 52 good ones from the 365, so I can do a self publish book. (If you could organise some bloody light up here it'd be good - I'm struggling this month)

Oh I've just about managed to get one each day, just that some days are mediocre at best. I've certainly learned I can't "do" still life
(I've also not been exactly religious about uploading them on the day concerned)

They are superb but I do forget to look very often. As an idea (and just to increase your workload slightly), would you consider putting whatever the latest "today" picture up as another file on the server and always called "today.jpg" or similar, thus overwriting it daily when the new one is released. We could all set an active desktop to the relevant webpage/pic and our desktops would be magically updated overnight.
Hope this is not a cheeky request, meant as a compliment

Oh God if I must. There's no peace in here is there.
But only if you explain to a bloke with only 17 brain cells (most of which are used for moving about) how one set's up an active desktop? I tried it once and it crashed the PC.

Ooh goody, working for me.
The easiest and quickest way is to view that url (but do it in IE not Firefox) and then right click the piccy and select "Set as Desktop Item", note NOT "Set as background" as that would just use that one pic until you changed it again manually. You should then find it on your desktop, if you hover over it you will get a small white box and if you go to the top you get a toolbar pop up with small arrow, from this you get a dropdown menu which lets you choose to see it full screen etc. If PC is not always connected you can also set to be available offline etc and even set schedules for periodic checks, I don't think this latter part needs to be bothered with if PC is on broadband connection but will let you know once you update tomorrow.
Oh and if you are using a Mac then I have no idea.
Oh and cheers Looks lovely.

ohhh that's clever.
If I change the pic will it automatically update - or does it do it in the middle of the night or something?

How about a link somehwere on your site Steve that shows the last picture added. Then we can activate the active desktop to that link and the desktop updates with every new picture.
Sort of CarterVision
Mind you... no dodgey Frankie or anything, as it would be plastered across my six 19" monitors
