Stripping paint from fibre glass?
Discussion
DON'T DO IT ! It has been my experience if you strip glass you are making much more work for yourself. If you have it media blasted you will have to re surface the panel with polyester or epoxie resin to seal the raw fibers left from blasting. If you use a stripper the surface can become contaminated and you will have adhesion and read thru problems with your final finish. The best method i have found is to sand (rub down) the existing surface with an agressive wet or dry sand paper to the level that the defect you are trying to correct is removed. Follow this with polyester repair material until the surface is to the level you are happy with, then prime with a catylised primer and refinish as usual. You will be suprised how fast a #80 grit wet sanpaper will remove material, be careful not to expose any fibers. Good luck. gary

Thanks for the info. guys, I've fired off an email to Frosts so I'll see what they say.
I should actually of made myself a bit clearer, my Caterham has £1,500 worth of carbon fibre nose and wings on it but the previous owner had they sprayed body colour, however I would prefer them in bare (lacquered) carbon fibre so I need to find something to remove the paint without damaging the carbon fibre surface below.
cheers,
Mike
