While chatting to my local HSV dealer today, he dropped into conversation that they were getting 4 of the 20, 7 litre HSV's allocated to New Zealand!!!!!! They will be arriving sometime in April. This country gets better and better!!!

Are you saying HSV is doing an LS7 Sedan. Cool. I thought it was only speculation.
Got any info anywhere?

I saw this on a recent link
"Also down the track expect to see a more potent GTS-R, which could get a moire powerful engine; a monster 7.0-litre V8 borrowed from the Chevrolet Corvette LS6 has been mooted, as has a 6.2-litre version of the current V8."

Now the 6.2 I would think would be the L92 engine that the Escalade trucks use in DOD and VVT mode in the US. Which would suggest HSV are finally going to dump the old legacy cathedral port heads of the 1997 LS1. I cant imagine they will want to stick with an engine that has less performance potential than the entry level Holden V8!

In which case anyone interested in performance might be advised to wait for the series 2 HSV's.

Just me speculating, be interested to hear any more points of view.

I think you'll find all future HSV engines will be derivatives off the LS2.

I heard that about a year in the 6.2 will come on line with more power as standard as the LS2 will be no more i.e. halted production and supply ended.

Now the 7.0 from the Z06 that would be a real M5/M6 muncher as a stock car - monster torque!

And if that is not enough look at Lingenfelter upgrades...

Well the block is a GenIV block for all post LS1 engines, LS2, L92 and L98 included. So from that point I agree.

However if you are talking about the LS2/LS6 cathedral port "243" model heads, Id be surprised if they didnt change over to the L92 style before too long as they are simply below par now.

The LS6 is the 5.7 C5Z06 unit. The 7.0 is the LS7. Makes you wonder about the authority of some of these quotes.

Very true, I guess the author of that article meant the C6 Z06. As you say if they can get that wrong, the rest is likely to be out the door as well.

I think the ls7 will be obsolete shortly so maybe they're just allocating current stock/parts. Also going to the smaller capacity unit allows for more boost pressure for the supercharged version. GM move so fast that it's hard to keep up!

That makes lots of sense to me. They can get a lower c/r from that displacement and it'll want to rev if the stroke stays short. I think this is the way GM are thinking plus the 7 is costly to produce AND they skimped on decent pistons so it's a bit limited in some respects. They'll put cast pistons into a s/c engine with low c/r because it should be reliable that way. Just my guess at the moment. Everytime they excel with an engine they then penny pinch for a while before releasing another excellent engine and so the cycle continues It's hard to keep up!
