Just put the CC on full auto and never press any buttons except for adjusting the temp.

Never seen 30mpg since, I must admit!
Thanks for the Aircon tip, I think it's warming to me now though (excuse the pun), it hasn't been playing up so much recently. I'll still never know how to get the re-circulation going though...
