My work supplied laptop is still Windows 2000 - I haven't joined the decade, never mind the most recent release....
Looks great and from what I have heard its a vast improvement. But will wait and see what the upgrade process is. A friend has tried the upgrade a few times and it works fine, but I remember the upgrades from 2000 to XP and it was a nightmare! Lets see....

Have been using the beta verison since the start and have watched it mature and can say it takes a little while to get use to a few things being in different places but all in all now that its offically released its a fantastic product. If you are thinking of upgrading to it go for it as the new security is easier to use than Xp and nice and simple. So well done microsoft.
from me.
What people have been telling me, the most important thing is to turn all the nagware off immediately; then it becomes pretty nice to use.
When you put new hardware in (e.g. gfx card) it will automatically reconfigure itself to use the hardware, which is a nice thing. Whether it works properly or not remains to be seen - MS has a touch of Sirius Cybernetics about it.

Can you get it to stop asking your permission to run an application that you've just asked it to run?
I've been told you can turn all the nagging off...not yet investigated.
One quick google later...our survey says...

Get Rid of The Nagging Windows Security Center Icon
Disable UAC (Formerly UAP)
Disable DEP / NoExecute Protection

Given the price, the fact that it would be intolerably slow on my PC from the stone age, and the fact that they have moved everything to make it difficult for the hard of thinking (like me) I think I'll give it a miss.
I think I'm firmly in the realm of poverty spec computing now. In fact, I have the firm belief that within the year everyone will have moved so far forward with technology that I may as well be dead.
.....and they left me here to die! Ho Hum!

I was just wondering if anyone had any advice on installing a 32 bit or a 64 bit edition?
I've not tried it, but I think the general consensus is that unless you have a 64-bit application that needs it, and you have no 32-bit software, and all of your hardware has 64-bit drivers, then 32-bit is the way to go. But as I say, not tried it myself so happy to be put right.

Stay with the 32bit unless you need more than 4gb of ram and are ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN that all of your hardware has 64bit drivers.
You will probably change to 64bit over the life of Vista but you will be much better off with 32bit to start with.
