Learning website design - Where to start???
Discussion
Hi,
Just wanted to ask everyones advice on where to start if I want to learn how to make websites. I have no experience of how to make websites apart from trying dreamweaver, photoshop and Web easy professional, but which one is it best to focus on or should I be looking to learn html or something along those lines.. Also, is it best to just buy a book or are there websites or dvds which do better tutorials. Ideally, I'd like to work towards being able to make a simple website which atleast looks professional.
Thanx

Plenty of decent tutorials out there on t'internet. Found these to be a pretty good starting point...

Look at learning XHTML for content and CSS for styling your pages - and ideally hand code the pages rather than using the design view in say Dreamweaver for example (I find the code view in Dreamweaver pretty good).
Avoid the likes of Word and Frontpage for creating pages - they add all sorts of junk to the page source code.
Maybe try grabbing the trial of Microsoft's new Expression Web product - the successor to Frontpage, but one heck of a lot better (more a Dreamweaver competitor). Have been tinkering with this the last few days and pretty impressed so far
