Subaru has announced a new special edition Outback with £1,000 worth of extra equipment and limited to 200 units.

Based on the Outback 2.5 SE automatic, the new model features an ivory leather interior, rear air-conditioning outlets and Momo leather steering wheel with inset audio controls.

Available in time for the March ’07 number plate change, the special edition Outback costs the same £24,925 on-the-road as the standard SE automatic and is offered in either grey metallic or dark green, with grey bumpers and body cladding.

The Outback crossover all-wheel drive estate was face-lifted for 2007 with new front and rear styling and a updated interior. Improved standard equipment includes HID headlamps with pop-out washers, electrically-folding door mirrors, front projector foglamps, six-disc in-dash CD autochanger with MP3 facility, dual-zone climate control and curtain airbags.

The Outback 2.5 SE also has heated front seats, door mirrors and windscreen de-icer, electrically-powered sun-roof, cruise-control and an eight-way electrically-operated driver’s seat.

Looks great, might be tempted. Anyone got any thoughts on if this is a good bet? I currently drive an Imprezza estate which is great.

I used to drive my mates Outback when we went snowboarding in the States. Nice car, went quite well and had heated seats, always nice when you've spent half the day sat in snow. With comedy US tyres on the thing it had a certain lack of grip, but was very predicatble when the grip was lost.

Is this an 'advertisement feature' ? Like seeing an advert in Evo mag for the latest Volvo estate.

If you need an estate it normaly means it's a load lugger, or carrying kids & the dog- is ivory leather really going to wear that well?

Well Ivory may show the dirt somewhat, but leather in general is quite popular with people who 'use' their 4wds as its much easier to clean mud off than cloth seats etc.

I'm pretty sure leather was originally used in cars due to it's hard wearing and wipe clean attributes as opposed to it looking good - but admittedly Ivory isnt the best colour in a vehicle of this type..
