But which one?
Discussion
Have read the various web pages from the manufacturers and am now totally confused. Not very IT clever really!
What would you buy to detect all the various traps including, if possible, the van, the hand held guns and of course the fixed cameras?
Not looking to jam the ba**ard things, just to get as much warning as possible as to where they may be - not that I ever speed I hasten to add......
Oh and it should be updateable too!!!

lol! I have just purchased a morpheous roadpilot. I got a very good price (only £30 more than a roadangel) from networx and I ordered lunch time, it was with me the next morning. Once I manage to get it to stay attached to the windscreen for longer than 2 minutes, I'll tell you how it works
Its sold as being modular, so you can attach detectors and jammers et al as you wish. Its totally software driven, so should be easier to keep upto date, and has a larger memory than geodesy..

Morpheous customer services are excellent. They replaced the part that was causing the fault almost immediately which I recieved this morning. It is now working well and is a VERY good system.
Road Angel is also good, the new "laser detector" isnt much use, as laser gets your speed so fast, that by the time the detector has gone off, its too late to do anything, you can just expect the NIP in the post. The "blackspot" warnings can be very annoying, on certain stretches of road, it wont shut up! The Road Angel system is also nearing capacity, whereas the Road Pilot seems to have a lot more memory, and 'add ons' such as Laser jammers and Radar detectors will be available in the near future. Roadpilot also has more options, i.e. you can download data such as mileage into excel, or routes and also plot points onto the touch screen using map point, it will then give you directions using GPS. I managed to get the RoadPilot from Networxautomotive.com (recommended - fast delivery)for £430 (special offer) however the RRP is £499. You can get it from most places on the net for £450. Its worth the extra £50 in my opinion over Road Angel.
You can find reviews of both at: www.ukspeedtraps.co.uk/
and www.pocketgps.co.uk/

Ted has a review of the road angel in the PH review section as well. Hope this helps!

.As far as I know, it is on rare occasions possible to detect "scatter" from laser, although this is a phenomenon that is more known with radar guns, which are always on, and emitting which therefore makes them easier to detect. Because laser is shot in very short bursts (i.e. fractions of a second bursts) you are much less likely to pick it up, some detectors will only register laser if the actual vehicle with the detector is being hit. The beam is sometimes so 'thin' that the detector in the target vehicle may not register laser! This is particularly true with the newer guns. Bare in mind also that the laser operators could easily get around this by targeting every 3rd vehicle say, making it impossible for you to detect and react to if you were the 3rd vehicle.
The only defence is a jammer to make totally sure, but the legality of these is questionable.

And is f**k all use when they're hiding in the bushes a mile down the road with a vascar unit timer.
What you're looking for is the much vaunted 6th sense.
Hard to come by though.
I agree with above posts though. You'll need a good laser jamer and a GPS trap locater.
Radar detectors are largley useless these days as most mobile units are laser and a lot of fixed traps don't even use radar anymore. The only way to avoid these traps is to know where they are. This is where the GPS come in.

However... Multanova (no boy racer gags..
) will have their product given type approval for the UK in about 6 months, and you will need a radar detector for it. At the moment in the UK, K band is the ONLY radar band to be used by the Police. K band is used by Gatsos, the New style Mini-Gatsos (Black box on a tripod with a separate flash and battery pack) and hand held radar guns. Multanova however uses ka band, and can be used in a stationary car, can be placed anywhere by the road side, and can be fully automated. K band = 24.125 - 24.150 GHz
Ka band = 33.4 - 36.0 GHz
Check out the Dutch site www.flitsservice.nl and click on the "5 april" for more pictures.
If you want to see exactly the capabilities, go to:
www.robot.de/english/index.html
...Click on "products".
...Click on "MULTANOVA Road Safety Systems".
...Finally click on "Traffic Radar Unit MULTANOVA 6F".
The roadpilot will have a radar detector add soon, and it will be able to work with both K and Ka bands.
Safe Driving.
Where have you seen mention of pending type approval for Multanova in the UK? Thanks for the info, I'll enable Ka band on my BEL990i soon.
The Dutch site shows some good views of the device in use. Looks a little sneaky to me but I guess it's what we've come to expect now.

Its a bit of info I got from a reliable source at the Traffex exhibition at the NEC. Multanova had a stand there.

Yeah, it is sneaky, they are very very hard to spot and they can be used in a variety of installations, such as in a windscreen of an unmarked car parked at any roadside, or on any central reservation or verge of any road. The traps can be fully automated and left to nick people, however in Holland, they are accompanied by a police officer in an unmarked car, after units left alone mysteriously disappeared. Yet another underhand way to catch you out..beware!
