starter motor heat shield

ok its time to sort my starter motor out;hot starting problem. doed anybody know if i can buy a heat shild anywhere or will i need to fabricate one?

I looked at making one, but it is such an awkward tight place to get to, I decided to leave alone. Also, a shield being above the starter motor to protect it from the manifold heat, may cause a detremental affect on the airflow in that area whilst the car is being driven, the manifolds may not receive any airflow at all near cylinders 6 and 8.
I`m no thermal or aerodynamics engineer, but just my thoughts

Hi

All you need is a small square of heatshield material (just big enough to cover half of the starter motor) and a cable tie or two. Place the heat shield material around the starter motor between the starter and the heat source. Fix in place with the cable ties. Leave the side of the starter facing the ground open to the air so it gets cooled when on the move.

Fit a relay back into the starter solenoid circuit and cure the hot start. It was there but TVR forgot to fit it in the socket and bypassed it. Ocaasionally it doesnt cure it(less than 1%), but it should be there regardless. Check out either the griff or chim pages web sites for free info of how to fit it back into the circuit.

as david says, get his hot wire start kit, its the only thing the starter motor needs.

david/c;ive..... been looking on the griffith pages at the mod wise starter modification...now dont laugh but confirm ive got it right before i start :-)

take a battery feed + from the main battery cable, take a negative - from the spare connector (green) ,connect to my new relay 85 neg 30 pos, and the connector with the 3 link loops, one of which i have tested and cut - and connect these to 30 and 86 ; and reverse if it does not work ???? i take it that out of the 3 link wires 2 are live with the engine running ? and the one i need is the only one left dead with the engine running?

The Modwise Hot Start kit is a must for any Griff and Chimp owner

Basically, yes, make sure you fuse the new supply, i know it never has been fused but better safe etc. YOu will be better off taking the new supply from either of the copper links on the fuse box, saves disturbing the alarm !

I got a sheet of this www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/products/ProductDetail.asp?cls=MSPORT&pcode=NIMG3A (Though smaller and not from Demon Thieves) - with the intention of fashioning something to brace it between the manfold and starter motor.

I don't really have the tools or technical ability to install it - but my brother who is an engineer (and the ability and the workshop to match) has indicated he will help see what is possible next time I visit his place in the Griff.
