At Philip Island...they sound superb...and look very agile...I hope the racing is closer than ever before...if that`s possible...

I think the stubby little seat & tail units will be coming to a showroom near you in a year or two ...nearly every machine has one...

Hi MGP Fans,
they really sound "not 4strokish"....
As I am not too much into MGP tech : how high do 800s rev ?
I am asking because I know a little basic stuff about motorcycle drag racing engines,
in Pro Stock they rev up to 18.000 rpm.
At that point, the valves open & close 150 times per second,
and the gases are almost continously flowing through the head,
almost like a 2stroke, and a lot of tuning is done by modulating the gas flow pulsing.
(They sound differently though, SCREAMING yikes, maybe due to very open shoutmegaphone?)
Are these MGP engines tuned likewise and/or do they have variable valve timing?
Cheers,
Benni

Everything in moto gp is certainly adjustable...not so sure about the variable valve set ups...you can bet all the suspension ,chassis, wheelbase etc are adjustable..I`d assume the engine has a similar spread of adjustability...even down to firing order revisions in regard to the timing of the explosions in the engine cycle...the firing order has recently been played with over the last decade, even mid-season, in order to find more traction & lessen the tyre wear.
A smaller CC limit allows lighter spinning parts in the engine which usually allows higher rev limits...not sure about the figure , around 15K perhaps..
