what a little bugger this job is,my hands are not small either(no help) my fingers are numb, removed them today, oops one precat stuck in mouth of maincat other is in place, thats 1 less work for me to remove then gonna make a call to ACT for there bolt & gasket kit,was there someone on here doing the Reinz gaskets? decided to start preping top of chassis rails to paint where manifolds have cooked the finish off,why is it everything you do on these cars ropes you into something else, still it will sound better & cooler underbonnet.

Its fairly obvious, but it is a good time to check the sealant on the wiring grommets and heater duct whilst you have a bit of access. That heater duct at the back of the engine is a real candidate for silicone BTW.

I suggest you use ARP K headed bolts when you come to put it back together, the heads are much smaller (3/8" instead of 14mm) which gives you far more room for your ratchet ring spanner (another great invention). Also recommend the dual metal composite gaskets. Heat shield under the manifold seems like a good idea, it hasn't stopped the powder coating coming off mine but I don't know how much worse it would have been without. I'll be refitting a heat shield when mine goes back together.

Discovery steering shafts have nice press stud heat shields BTW.

Ceramic coating is the best way to go tho :-P

I suspect most TVR and RV8 specialists will sell them, mine came from Real Steel.

On mine they were for sure, but one bolt was still too close to header to get a ring spanner on. Nice kit though, well worth the extra cost.

If I read the OP right you are considering wrapping the chassis tubes? Sure to promote corrosion, there's debate if wrapping works for the headers, almost certain it won't for chassis rails.

victor,i was waiting for that one good point....but what i am looking into is to have loosely fitting heat shield wrapping you know the type found on clutch cables and the like, bearing in mind the rails are to be treated and painted, they wont harbour moisture and the like because they will be loose fitting enough for good ventilation they will also be secured with pop fastners,i just dont want the paint getting fried off,if i decide im not happy i can just remove them.i dont use the car when the salt/gritting is down so i wont worry about the salt gettig trapped thing, come to think of it i cant be bothered in the rain either, its a toy.

Lookup Aaron.C.Reskew
I just bought a set of gaskets from him and they're Victor Reinz
How do you know about these That Daddy? I assume its because they are good ones?

Sounds like you're about to do what I am just finishing. I scraped off the top chassis rails while I had the manifolds off and repainted them with something called ELECTROX.
I've had a couple of threads running which you might find interesting
Here for chassis paint debate
Here for manifold job
