I was going to sail today, but couldn't get a crew so opted for the 2nd choice of a coast walk.
Took some photos, but hardly any of them have turned out as hoped Having looked at my lens its positively filthy (not finger prints). This is highlighted best below

Whats the best way to get rid of this? I dont want to rub it with anything for fear of stratching it :/

The best of the day is probably this one, its a pity the sky is so plain.

Thanks

Doesn't have to be. I did this in 2 mins - get the right sky, spend some time and you're flying

I think modern lenses are surprisingly tough, unless you positively grind sand into the element you are very unlikely to do any damage . . . just get a lens cloth and be carefull . . . I used the kit lens on my D70 for 1.5 years without anything covering it and cleaned it with everything from lens cloths to t-shirts as required and the front element was still perfect . . . and it was dirty plenty times, sea spray, dust, etc, etc

I would never consider buying any lens without also buying a UV or haze filter at the same time, particularly if you're going to use the camera outside.
