Multiple iPods
Discussion
Right then, here's the situation.
Been on a conference in the states, me and the mrs wanted to buy iPods and thought it would make sense to buy them there. Also, as we were doing a lot of driving afterwards, it seemed a good idea to dump our CD collection on iTunes on my work laptop before going so we could use the iPod in the hire car (Jeep Commander 3.2 V6 but that's another story!) whilst we were there.
So now we are back in blighty this is what we have...
My work PC, full iTunes library, synched with my iPod video.
My profile on our home PC, connects to my iPod video but empty library.
Her profile on our home PC, connects to her iPod nano but also empty library.
Question...is there a quick way to transfer all of the songs from my work PC to our home PC and be able to sync the iPods with the home PC? As it stands the only way I can see to do it is to sit there and load every CD manually (possibly twice, as in once for each profile). I know that tunes purchased from iTunes will "upload" from iPod to iTunes library but not CDs. I do intend to uninstall iTunes from my work laptop.
Also, what is the best program for ripping DVDs? "The ultimate iPod guide" I bought from WH Smiths mentions Handbrake but this is Mac only.
Thanks in advance!

Link your iPod to your PC.
Open it in my computer (F?)
find the music files (they will not be named the way you expect tho)
Select all of them (Ctrl A)
Copy and paste them into a folder on your C drive.
Go into iTunes
Add folder to library
Select the folder you have just copied to
iTunes will import them and sort them all out with the info you had on them before

Ripping wise, one product stands head and shoulders above the rest and that is EAC:
www.exactaudiocopy.de/
Use this in conjunction with the Lame encoder and accurate rip.
www.accuraterip.com/
http://lame.sourceforge.net/index.php
Info on all thing ripping and encoding:
www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=28124
If you use these tools you will get EXACT digital copied of your CD's - I use them for archiving my CD collection. You can of course use iTunes but you'll lose quality. All depends how fussy you are about sound quality.
