what noise is this?

when my wedgey goes over speed bumps (sloowly) I get a kind of 'rattle-klonk-rattle' on the NSF which you can also 'feel' if you are sat in the passenger seat, coming up thru the end of the footwell....what can it be? I can't see anything there? could it be something horrid in the front susp?

The exhaust manifolds run very close to the chassis on the n/s - as in they touch. Mainly the clamps joining the manifold to the rest of the system - you can see it from the engine bay. Mine rattles like crazy sometimes.

Yeah - you can rotate the union clamps - you can gain a few mm extra clearance if they are not optimal. Just slacken the nuts off a bit and wtist them about.

I had a similar noise to this on my Vectra SRi
Turned out to be the shock absorber spring that had snapped
(hitting a big pothole in the LAkes) and the bit that had
broken off was rattling about until it fell off completely
allowing me to solve the problem of where the noise was actually coming from
It was only the top 6" so the spring had looked ok

Would it be worthwhile having the ARB's and linkages checked over????

I had a very similar noise on the Burgundy Battlecruiser turned out to be both ARBs and linkages

thanks for suggestions guys - looks like it's the shocker - the top bush is utterly perished away so I'll fit new shocks and see if that's all it is. arb looks good and has funny purple polybushes which previous chap fitted not long ago.
