Ignoring all the pointless squabbling about Microsoft vs Apple vs Linux - has anyone had much experience with the actual full release?

We've received a set of "freebie" licenses in our Action Pack update so I've given it a spin and initially the results are very good. A few hardware driver glitches that have seemingly resolved themselves with driver updates from the hardware manufacturers.

The problem came a few days later, installing anything from the optical drive results in a string of CRC errors. Assuming the drive is faulty I tried copying the contents onto harddrive using another computer and found that the checksum errors came with it. OK - next try a different piece of software. This time downloading the install files from the internet and again more checksum errors.

I've tried a few different disks and download packages and the results all seem to be the same. This certainly didn't happen under XP but then XP isn't quite so thorough in checking for errors. The weird thing is the errors seem to occur *after* the files are copied to the hard drive. I've tried a few different tricks for working around this, copying installed files from another source, installing to different hard drives and it all gives the same results.

Searching on the internet has just drawn a big blank so I am rather at a loss to explain why this is happening. It doesn't seem to be indemic to Vista itself rather a result of the intesive validation checking it does during installation but I could be wrong...

Anyone else had similar experiences or heard of them?
