Bridgestone SO2a tyres ?
Discussion
To the uninitiated this is a minefield as even (most of) the people who sell tyres don't have a clue. If I have understood correctly...
Bridgestone SO2's come in various flavours;
A / N1 / N2 / N3 / Pole Position / Probably et al.
The 'N' designation means it is a tyre approved by Porsche for fitment to their cars. You can fit non 'N' tyres such as the PP despite what the tyre retailers say. The Suffix indicates a revision of the compound (and possibly tread pattern.) The A's are a different tread pattern (blocks opposed to V's) entirely.
SO3's are a different tread and compound but are I think Porsche approved. A lot of the TVR drivers and some of the Porsche drivers seem not to like them due to a stiffer sidewall. They have therefore gone for the Pirelli's and Conti's instead.
You can mix and match front / back but not on the same axle.
I have PP's front (non approved - for what it's worth) and SO2 N3 rears as I couldn't find any PP's. The tyres look exactly the same but are different compounds.
If you can get them they are (IMO) the best ultra performance tyre but you do pay for it with increased tyre noise and wear. A small price to pay.

thanx DRG. I've just about trashed my current road tyres Bridgestone SO2, fronts only fitted 3 months ago (N3s) and rears fitted middle last year (PPs with nice fat rim protectors)....was going to fit more of a track but road legal tyre + buy a second set of wheels that already had some 'SO2A's fitted so wondered whether these were any good. I really like the SO2 tyres I've got, but they dont like trackdays much, and they really dont like airfield days
