Is my PC good enough for GTR 2/ GTL/ RFactor?
Discussion
I upgraded my PC on a budget this w/end. 2.5Ghz P4, 256Mb Geforce 5500 AGP, 768Mb Ram. Looking to get into my racing games again. I've already got GP4, and Grand Prix Legends installed and running like a dream, but having some slightly confusing problems running the newer games.
GTR - Downloaded the demo, graphics maxed, runs fast and smooth, no problems, even with a full grid
GTL - Downloaded the demo, and its a bit slow and stuttery, and the cars don't seem to make correct contact with the track. Is this because its a beta demo, or is the full game like this? I desperatley want to play it, but I don't want to shell out and fid it runs terribly. I thought it was based on the GTR engine, which runs great. (GTL was the main reason for upgrading so i'm disappointed so far!)
RFactor - Demo downloaded, and it is very smooth, i'm assuming it automatically selects the detail level? Is it worth buying the full version. Not keen on the fake cars and tracks, so are the mods any good?
I've been lent GTR2 today to see if it will run, so i'm trying it tonight and fingers crossed it will.
Any idea on whether WTCC will run?
So many qusetions!
On a side note, does anyone play Company of Heroes? Any idea whether this will run satisfactorily? I've been playing Soldiers, Heroes of WWII and that looks great and I can have everything maxed on that. Aren't PC's awkward!
Thanks.

Your PC should be ok, but I wouldn't try running it on full detail though if you want smoothness, not with only a 256mb card.
As for the problems have you updated your DirectX recently? If not do so and check for gfx card driver updates.
rFactor has a little feature called AutoFPS in the display settings i have it set at 35, which means whatever setting you have it on to achieve eg. 50fps if it gets very busy on screen and the fps starts to drops when it hits 35 rfactor automatically drops graphics levels to try to keep it above 35. Although your PC still has to have the power to achieve 35+ with a busy screen and the reductions it does. As some people on another forum stll can't grasp as they try to run rFactor on max with autoFPS set at 60 on a PC that can barely managed 25.

I think the problems you're having is that your graphics card is quite old. Upgrade to a 6600 or better still a 7600/7800 - these are the best nVidia produce as AGP cards.
As a comparison, I've got a 2.8GHz machine with a 1Gb of memoray and an nVidia 7800 and it runs all these games extremely well. Don't worry about your graphics card only having 256Mb of ram - that's more than enough! I previously ran GTL on a 6600GT with 128Mb and it was plenty good enough; only slowing down on full grids with a mix of cars.
