my wedge has a problem, on part thottle its fine but when u boot it, it loses power and wont clear itself until u lift of? HELP

I have noticed that the Lucas EFI doesn't seem to like being 'floored', it prefers gradual acceleration to avoid glitching.
Not sure if it's AFM flap overshooting, throttle pot gibberish or what...

It might be a worn cam, one cylinder tends to wear first (7 from memory) and the intermittant lack of suck on the cylinder when you suddenly floor it allows the flap in the air flow meter to temp partially close giving the affect you describe. When it gets really worn you can hear the flap banging shut.

Other things to check:

The engine temperature sensor!!! Causes all sorts of mischief!

The throttle pot could be intermittent.

The air flow meter, if a flapper, could also have an open-circuit fault on the potentiometer track.

Finally - faulty fuel regulator possibly could cause fuel pressure to drop too much?

I had the same symptoms on my 350i, turned out to be the little plastic thingy in the vaccum advance line to the distibutor. -jim

Spot on I'd say. Always suspect this first.......assuming good spark.
