I have noticed that Times Online and Independant Online article pages end in the .ece extension, eg.
http://news.independent.co.uk/environ
It's not an extension I recognise, so out of curiosity I tried to look up what it's origin is. But despite some furious googling, nowhere seems to give any reference to what sort of file it actually is or where it comes from?
I presume it's some sort of server side code or something, but does anyone know more about this? Seems strange that it wouldn't appear in any online search.
