Edinburgh restaurant recommendation required

Hey folks, managed to get a date with a rather lovely young Polish girl. Even more astoundingly, she'd already met me when she said yes. Mind boggles. Anyway, she likes vegetables and healthy food (but didn't say she was a vegetarian explicitly) but I'm more of an Italian/Indian/Chinese type bloke. If there's a steak on the menu, I'm fine too (unless she does actually turn out to be veggie of course...)

I'm coming from Leith, she's from Marchmont.

Any suggestions?

Best vegetarian in Embra is David Bann's place on St Mary's St about 1/2 way down the royal mile. Website here www.davidbann.co.uk/

I'm no veggie but have a few mates who are and have been here a few times, good food, reasonable price , nice surroundings.

popped into the Old Chain Pier on Saturday night just along the road from you (within walking distance)- pretty good grub washed down with some good vino and very reasonable!

Get a downstairs table if you go.

Is that the place on the right next to some traffic lights just before the road takes a sharp left away from the sea? (Heading out of Leith towards Barnton)


mcem - iglu looks a possibility, nice variety.

towser - ta, but nothing on there that appeals to me

Used to like The Grain Store on Victoria St when I was up there, been a few years now so might have changed. Reasonable on price and they certainly used to have some vegetarian options cos I lived with a couple of lentil eating feckers.

I think Dario's on Lothian Road is great, been going there for about 20 years now, it never disappoints.

Qwelin (on Hannover St??) is a very good chinese but expensive, well the way my Dad spends it is!

Try The Restaurant on Roseburn Terrace (www.therestaurantedinburgh.co.uk) - one of the best bistro-style restaurants in town.

I keep meaning to - it's 2 minutes from the flat. Walk part it whenever I wander out for a drink or down to the shops.

If she's a fish eater, Sweet Melindas on Argyll St - small so you need to book but very good - and the veggie stuff accompanying the meal is actually edible!! altho it's a fish restaurant it always has a meat option which often looks so good it's tempting even if you've gone cos you fancy fish!!

Oh, there are so many!

Leith - Vaults is v. nice but v. pricey, Silvio is the Maitre d' and he's an old friend.

The King's Wark was always good for pub food, and Fishers down the end of the Shore is also cheap and friendly.

Bann's and The Grain Store both excellent.

Duck's at Le Marche Noir in Eyre place - fab.

Must be something interesting in Marchmont/Bruntsfield/Tollcross area - Brougham Place had a couple of nice French places?

Le Partenope on Dalry Road is also popular, and there's a good Italian nearby.

Centotre on George Street, or go to the cafe in the back of Valvona & Crolla on Elm Row

Hendersons still going?
