I didn't watch the program tonight but...

...I drove to Nuremberg with 4 mates for the last world cup on the autobahn... and was REALLY happy doing 105mph sitting in the outside lane...UNTIL a beamer flashed me to move out of the way...he was towing a caravan yikes

We estimated he was doing at least 110-115 mph!

The speed of some of the cars (mainly Porsches) passing me were frightening...140+ mph during the mid-morning on a busy autobahn.

It is just certain sections that you can do this on though. A lot of Germans say the carnage is now too much and something has to be done.

I'm pretty sure that even on the autobahn in Germany that overtaking with a caravan at those speeds is illegal

I'm sorry but I'm just going to have to call bullshit on that one. I just simply don't believe it.

Caravans simply can't go that fast without falling apart or requiring massive power from the tow car. Remember that TG episode with the 700bhp EVO and a caravan? It struggled to go much more than that and then blew its engine (after the caravan had already disintegrated).

Similar story when I was posted over there a few years back.

One Sunday afternoon I tried to V max my old Calibra Turbo on the Route 2 south of Fallingbostel and got upto an indicated 155, but still had a Nissan 300ZX twin Turbo sat about a car length behind me with his indicator on.

Suppose I was hogging the outside lane though. hehe

Ian - surely you're used to black Tuscans coming past you faster than that on the Sussex Pheasant runs? hehe

Not yet been on an autobahn, should remedy that in July, but have always heard that you will get big Mercs, Bimmers and Porkers flashing you out the way if you're doing less than 150 eek

Yep...on the sections I was on anyone doing under 120mph in the outside lane would have a queue of cars up their backside flashing and honking...It's a strange feeling to be flooring it at 125mph and to glance in the rear view mirror only to see a Merc/Porsche/whatever practically in your boot with all headlights blazing...

Now thats driving as the good lord intended

The German version of the pheasant run would be an almost SURREAL experience!
