Dartford Tunnel Video
Discussion
The clip of the car doing 130 was an Escort Rs Turbo and was going over Dartford Bridge. The BBC just happening to link together a bunch of separate stuff and lump it all together in a bit of a non story about speeding.

A load of TVRs doing up to 130mph in the tunnel,
This is what they wanted you to think.
As TC has already said the TVRs in the tunnel and the speedo were seperate that they had just pieced together
whats the point of speeding through a tunnel in a TVR, the idea is to enjoy the acoustic sounds of the car/exhaust in the tunnel, so we probably do the complete opposite and and have small short bursts

No they didnt, its nothing to do with the BBC so get off the traditional Ph "the BBC are all left wing commies" high horse.
The story broke in our local newspaper on fri/sat.
I rang a cpl of friends on Sat morning when I saw the article and told them to get any pics, vids and postings they had of themselves off the net sharpish. It didnt matter whether they showed them speeding or whatever, the common sense was just to get yourself off the radar screen.

1. The driver of the car in the accident was not at fault. The girl and her granny were crossing a dual carriageway and there was nothing the driver could do. Never charged.
2. The clip shows TVRs - no speed indicated
3. The clip then shows an RS Turbo speedo at 130mph. Totally different clip.
This is PROPAGANDA designed to pillory the sports car owner, ready for tax and /or a ban, and the Blair Broadcasting Corporation had to APOLOGISE live on air for misleading people in their ten o'clock bulletin.
Thread here.

Eh you have lost me on that one, regardless of where they got their idea for a news item from, be it another piece in a local paper, this was on a BBC News report so the BBC are responsible for having put this together or at least sanctioned it. The item included a shot of a TVR going through a tunnel, then a speedo showing 135mph but this was over a bridge and was a Ford Escort, then some old classics american things also going over the bridge, neither the TVR shot or the American bit indicate excess speed but it is inferred - they then went to the mother who sadly lost her daughter and mother in a pedestrian accident. Of course this was not on a bridge or in a tunnel but was attributed to speed so lets lump it all together, in fact if the report on another thread is true, these people were killed whilst trying to cross a busy dual carriageway and the driver was not found to be at fault in any way, not even speeding. Whichever way you look at it, this is a cobbled together piece of non related items, I am normally a fan of the beeb and am far from a Beeb basher, I have friends who work there who's ethics and work I respect, but this was a shit bit of reporting.

Its nothing bloody to do with the BBC !! It isnt their story!
This broke end of last week/at the weekend and the story was broken by one of our local papers. The article explicitly talked about the RS and mentioned the speeds over the bridge. They had snapshots on the Tivvers taking from Youtube and elsewhere.
As soon as that appeared it was immediately obvious that it would get picked up by the wider press and the BBC...lo and behold it has. That is why I got the on the blower and told a cpl of ppl to get any vids they had off the web pronto.
The granny thing is neither here nor there, its just the human interest element thrown in to provide the example. That was always going to happen as soon as the story hit the wider press/circulation/public interest and it was the obvious and immediate consequence. The actual story of the granny, girl, whoever is irrelent. to the point of the story.

You can't defend their journalism ethics by offering that, surely?
They may not have been the first to report on this but that doesn't remove their responsibility for the content of their journalism.

Forgive me for being stupid but is this not contradictory. It is on the BBC news ergo it IS NOW a BBC story, it doesn't matter where it started.

Erm, exactly our point. A non story spiced up and made to sound worse by linking in unrelated and irrelevant other stories and clips in order to illicit an emotional response.

Calm down fella and read what people are posting.
It was on the BBC and therefore it is their story and so should be held to account. It is misleading rubbish.
It's nothing new though
On an August morning in 1978, French filmmaker Claude Lelouch mounted a gyro-stabilized camera to the bumper of a Ferrari 275 GTB and had ... all » a friend, a professional Formula 1 racer, drive at breakneck speed through the heart of Paris. The film was limited for technical reasons to 10 minutes; the course was from Porte Dauphine, through the Louvre, to the Basilica of Sacre Coeur.
No streets were closed, for Lelouch was unable to obtain a permit.
The driver completed the course in about 9 minutes, reaching nearly 140 MPH in some stretches. The footage reveals him running real red lights, nearly hitting real pedestrians, and driving the wrong way up real one-way streets." «

Actually a story has been in the press for a few weeks now, it was only time before the Beeb picked it up and spun it.

I watch it and it was misleading.. they apologised for it in the next broadcast..
I cant seriously believe you lot. I really cant.
The only things seemingly being cared about in all this is that yer p1ssed you think the BBC has it in for you! The salient fact that some ppl have been f**king dumb enough to not only do this but plaster themselves across the web and the likely consequences of that seem to have gone over yur heads! Then when this story breaks, the anger is not at the idiots who have drawn all this attention but at the BBC for some sop story about some road death somewhere, some time.
