Easy peasy.
Slap a Wireless Router, Netgear are good, instead of the modem. Read manual, configure router to 'dial' the connection, set up WPA-PSK or WPA.

Slap WiFi card in to PC. Configure.
Configure laptops.

Wireless network Ahoy.

Your mileage will vary depending on how solidly constructed your house is

then when you come to sharing files across your network and mapping network drives etc ensure you have ample padding on all walls throughout your home. this will minimize any damage to your machines as you bounce them off the nearest upright cursing microsoft to hell.

hope this helps

Networking can be a pig. The one thing to remember is make sure each machine has the same usernames and passwords. You MUST have a password.
By default Windows XP tells machines trying to connect without one to sod off and the above is simpler than running through the local security policy to disable it.

Mac is fine. I found it easy to map mac to a windows share & vice versa. There are a few straightforward tutorials on the net too.

Zero effect in terms of connecting.

Hit the Airport thing that hangs around in the top left corner, point it at your network, when prompted enter the passphrase you configured. Job jobbed.

everythings running hunky dorey at the minute, though that infernal usb drive connected the desk top wont allow the laptops to see anything on it. oh it flirts endlessly, high boys, i have lots of lovely juicy files for you to see, that's it, closer... closer.... just a wee peek... then BAM. "Not enough server memory blah blah blah....."

networked drives are the way forward methinks

Samba. Hour configuring it and then it's a good boy for ever more.
And if it ever breaks it gets my pimp hand... my ohh so terrible pimp hand.
Needless to say it's well behaved.
