TADS. Wait till you drive it in the rain - it'll work when it's a bit wet.

Mine is stuck on.
Spoke to Brian at Fernies and it is a common problem, although a bit of a sod to do. It's on top of the gearbox and can't be got at from above and (IIRC) you have to at minimum drop the exhaust off. Basically, a fair bit of labour for a £2 switch. The advice I got was to leave it until something else was being done in the area and get it done then.

It can only be got to from the top! remove the centre console (you don't have to remove the door handle) 2 screws at the front and 2 under the pocket trim at the back. Underneath is another fibreglass panel, remove all the screws from this and you are in to the top of the gearbox and the handbrake switch. You then have to bend the metal bracket onto the switch or off whatever the case is. Not a long job, about an hour at the most. By the way, whilst you are at it, you can tighten the handbrake pivot bolt up, another common problem.

Thanks andy11. That does not sound too bad. I like to keep everything working & up to scratch so will have a look at the week end. Thanks again.

Guess it might depend on year of car?

Brian was quite insistant.

Might be worth checking the bulb by shorting the contacts on the fluid reservoir before tackling the switch. Having done it myself I reckon an hour is a tad optomistic to get the switch off unless you are double jointed, have tiny hands etc. As posted earlier go in from above...
