My Stratos lookalike
Discussion
I’m always interested in seeing the build of others’ cars, so I’ve put some (scanned) pictures of the build of my car onto the www. It was a Lancia Stratos lookalike.
As a bit of background, originally I purchased a Litton Corse i chassis in early 1991. A few months later Litton went bankrupt, but fortunately the chassis was mostly finished and I was able to start. Being minus bodywork, I approached Hawk Cars and arranged for a set of Group 4 panels.
Although externally rather similar, the chasses of the two kits are rather different – lots of head scratching and cutting were needed – and quite a few mistakes were made. In hindsight, I should have cut the body to fit the chassis. . .
. . . the story could be titled:
How not to do it, or
Do not mix your kits
After 2 years of weekends and holidays, 25kGBP, it finally saw the roads. After tweaking, the effort was certainly worth it. Plenty of modifications over the years, although the last (new headlights) took the car off the road in ca 2000. After my exile in Germany, August 2007 will see SiD finally metamorphise (slowly) into the ALIEN (that’s another album on the site).
Anyway, have a laugh – AMATEUR is the word you’ll be searching for.

You did a great job, the design is unique and stands out from the rest, and you're a very lucky man, because you're building your bespoke one-off sportscar, very few, ever get the chance to do that.!!!
I will be looking forward to seeing your finished sportscar..
Cheers
Italo

Davi - glad you like the third one too - its very close to perfect for me (the Stratos windscreen really kills any chance for a swooping A to B/C pillar line)
Fuoriserie - thanks for the compliments, although i trust you weren't talking about my Gallardo photoshopping
For the record, i shall be calling the car "skunkworks alien". (the real Skunk Works in USA says non profit use is OK - even use of their little skunk motive. . . aint no stoppin me know . . . .)

LOL madness. Definitely one of those that goes in the catagory of "really like it, but really not sure why". I think it's the futuristic feel - wouldn't look out of place on the judge dread set.
Do you have any of what you've been taking going spare?

not sure about how the diffuser's gonna fit, but thats pretty much it. too many lights?? selectable switch for 2 outer brake lights, all 6, or just the eyes!!
now for the interior. . .
I'd say that's highly dependant on if you want to look like a christmas tree...
yes, way too many lights
