Hi All

Recommendations please for manuafacturers/suppliers of stainless steel exhaust systems for an 87 998 Mini. Looking for a centre exit twintailpipe dtm style exhaust and manifold in stainless steel to replace a side exit single pipe exhaust currently on the car and supplied as part of a stage 1 tuning kit.

Any feedback much appreciated

Stuart

Stainless steel RC50 from Minispares (twin box) system centre or side exit. Posy tailpipes are also available for those that way inclined...

Stainless steel is a bad material for a manifold. Heat cycling causes brittle hardness which leads to premature failure of the welds and blowing at Y-Branch and the collector. Finding this out is also expensive as they are about £140.

Stick to a mild steel manifold, the material also doesn't seem to support that characteristic LCB "tick" at low rpm, they are a bit quieter.

Use a minispares centre exit mild steel jobby. Single box, about 130dB inside the car probably 140dB outside. If it is legal, I will eat my own hair. Silly cam and high CR do not help!

What is a quiet exhaust?

doubt any mini makes 130 - 140 db

my racer makes 96 with a reversed megaphone - and its checked at every race - too high - no race!

no racers will be over 100 as the limit is around the 98 mark - with trackdays and places like coomb even stricter.

even the panoz gt cars wont make as much as this and they are without any doubt the loudest modern race cars i have ever heard, they make your ears bleed as the go past you from 20 feet away!

isnt 140 odd the same as a jet taking off??, dont forget that db is the square root of the half or something - so 140 isnt 10 more 'db's' than 130.

My Mini Se7en is 95dBa on an RC40 twinbox with modified 2" Pipes.

I think Concorde made about 130dBa taking off.

Must be some Mini you have there LM.

About 12:1 CR with a single box, the pipe is also about 1.75 OD and the smallish bore, apart from making the cam work better, adds a bit of a row to it at high revs. It is irritatingly loud and when I get the blower back on it (it's off the road now for the swap) I'm going to build my own super loose, quiet system. (out of mild, as I prefer it)
