TartanHoon is ready to roll

Fancy a hoon round spectaular scenery?

TartanHoon 07 is zooming up fast.

If you fancy a hoon across the beautifully photogenic Scottish Highlands with a bunch if like-minded petrolheads, now's the time to book up for this PistonHeads-sponsored event.

TartanHoon consists of a four-day tour through the Scottish Highlands, home to some of the best driving roads in the UK. It will be chilly at this time of year but the bonus is that the roads will be practically empty and the scenery will spectacular, with snow topped mountains as a backdrop to the first signs of spring.

It's the ideal way to start the 2007 driving season.

Highlights

  • Four days
  • North-western tip of Scotland
  • The Grampian mountains
  • Loch Lomond and Loch Fyne
  • Great seafood
  • Friendly hotels

The route takes you through the most beautiful parts of the Highlands and up as far as the north western tip of Scotland, on through the Central Highlands to the Grampians, west of Aberdeen.

With the benefit of a detailed routebook, a support vehicle and a mechanic, you can tour at your own pace from one beautiful destination to another. All hotels are good quality and proffer a cosy bar, excellent beer and superb food with parking for your car.

If you've driven in the Highlands before, you'll know what spectacular scenery is on offer -- and you'll want more. If not, why not find out?

TartanHoon 07 runs from Thursday 15 to Sunday 18 March 2007. For details, check the link below.

Weather's potentially a bit iffy at that time of year isn't it? I was snowed in at my folks (18 inches fell in 7 hours) that time last year (south of Perth)

I'd be particularly wary of the high passes at that time of year. We still get snow in April. It could be very embarassing (and expensive) if a load of exotic got caught out with a dump of snow.

If I was going over those roads at this time of year I'd be taking the Discovery!

I did a similar route in December in a TVR Sagaris. The west coast should be fine for snow as roads tend to be arouns sea level. Always the chance of a bit of snow at that time of year though!

It's a bu66er, but we have to put up with this scenery and lack of traffic all year round. Free too.

To respond to Allyt, our trip was not copied from anyone. We've run this trip several times before. The high passes can get snow, but our routes have been driven at this time of year before without problems and we have some back-up routes just in case.

The prices include support and a guide as well as someone having actually driven the route and checked the roads and accommodation - rather than sticking a pin in the map! We're insured to run these trips and protect clients money (in accordance with the law governing these trips).

If you want any more information, please get in touch.

Personally I have taken much driving holiday in Scotland and have found it fantastic!

For me it was freedom, fantastic clear roads, mind blowing scenery, good montain walking and affordable. Just take a tent in the boot and go where you want, stop when you want and stay where you like with fire and the stars. Don't forget the whisky Unbeatable! cloud9

Tartan Hoon seems good way of introducing people to what Scotland has to offer but for most the fuel cost and time to get up there will also be a limiting factor.

On the basis I imagine we'd want to get to Inverary by 5.30pm (so we get there before dark), I guess we'll be setting off from Yorkshire at about 1.30 pm or a little earlier?

There is a useful location north of Carlisle that has been used as a meeting point on previous trips should you not wish to go south from Heysham or the Ferry got in later than necessary.

I've emailed the trip organiser with a link to this thread.

The RV will be near Carlisle at a time to be confirmed. Assuming you took the 08.45 crossing, you'll be in Heysham by about 12.30pm and at the RV by 14.30pm/15.00pm depending on when you take lunch.
