Hi all,

I went to have a look 993 lhd today.
It was only half an hour testdrive on the motorway but it was addictive!!
However the condition of the car wasn't good enough.

Here is what I noticed.
2 dents on the near side door
1 dent on the off side door
100 of stonechips on the front bumper and the bonnet.
cracked headlamp glass
cracked windscreen
smoke at idle but not at high revs
flat battery

1.Is it normal smoke at idle?

2. Can any of you assume how much it would cost to fix?

Cheers,
Gunny. 993 addicted

Age?

Mileage?

I think every 911 puffs a tiny bit of smoke on start up (oil collecting in the heads - horizontal cylinders remember) but constant smoke at idle? Hmmm....

Cracked windscreen? 50 quid on your fully comp insurance policy.

Tell us more about the car and we will tell you more about what to look for.

Gunny, dig a little deeper in your pocket & buy a RHD 993 with UK history, or look at that Boxter (nag, nag)!!

OK, I'll begin.

LHD = properly positioned pedals, more natural gear changing (try it and you'll see) & getting out onto the pavement

RHD = £10K too much.

Thanks for the tip Clubsport, but Herman's already got one in !

Herman, I suppose it also saves on servicing cost when you write it off overtaking !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Grant - Said it once, and I'll say it again, if you can't overtake in a LHD Porsche, you don't deserve a Porsche. It really isn't that hard and you get used to it very very quickly.

Agree with Herman on all other points too of course!

I forgot the LHD Porkers also have car jacking security benefit's as well, they come running up to the drivers side, jump in & get so bamboozled you can drive them straight to the police station. Boy these LHD drive benefit's are adding up !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks all even tho' all the replies are about LHD or RHD which was a bit out of the fucus.

Well, I'll let it slip this one and as Grant suggested I should stretch my budget and get one from the traders for "peace of mind".

I'll let you know how to get on.

Cheers,
Gunny

Puff of smoke on startup OK.

I'd be a bit worried about continuous smoke at idle.

I think I'd walk away, unless it's cheap enough so you can budget for a possible top-end rebuild. Valves and guides as a minimum. If you're still interested, have a compression test done.
