I have just read the article in this months EVO about the various super cars owned by the P1 Super Car Club and their running costs, reliability and depreciation....

It makes for eye watering and interesting reading, if anyone ever heres me moan and bitch about TVR reliability or costs again please re-direct me to that article and point me to this thread...

Don't know the point of this thread except to say if anyone has doubts about their TVRs reliability and running costs check out this article and see what the costs are of running cars that cost 3 times as much....

anyway apologies for the little soapbox moment

I totally agree. We might moan about TVR but hell on a bike 47% depreciation in one year,£7000 a year servicing! Not as if the exotics look, sound or go better is it?

So how much would it cost to run a new TVR covering 24,000 miles in a year? I'm willing to bet that the numbers would be similarly shocking (especially in terms of a proportion of the purchase price).

£4k servicing.
New clutch and 4 tyres every yr = £1200.
Regas the air con once a yr = £50.

+petrol. Said amount being determined by how it is driven and therefore not massively calcuable, however for general guidelines work on this...

1. around town, £10 of fuel = about 45-50 miles.
2. motorway, £10 of fuel = about 55-60 miles.

Depreciation..... dunno, haven't sold any of my TVR's!

Offset depreciation against pure visceral excitement and huge grin factor.

I'd say that is reasonable amortisation.

Well that does rather depend at what price you bought it at, when and what you are prepared to sell for doesnt it?
Depreciation doesnt actually happen until somebody hands cash over to you to buy it off you.

Say the T350 is around 42k new 3years ago and worth 22k now (i think thats fair ?) thats about 15% in first year, is that right ? if so is that bad, not in my mind...

Ok many points taken from above - Lambo GallardoMercy is a serious bit of kit and clearly is more exotic than a Tivv but even so the article suggests :

£120k to buy then in 7000 miles 5 clutches costing 5-6k before fitting (forgive me if the numbers are a little out, I'm at work without the mag) so at best that is 25k in 7000 miles and thats before servicing depreciation etc. I know this is a car club and the cars are probably abused but even so...also the AM V8 Vantages both needing new engines... ouch

I guess it depends on your point of view, my thoughts were always that the 120k sports cars were that much more because the R&D costs concentrated on far better durability and reliability. Reading this article suggests otherwise

What is evident is the reliability and running costs of the Porsche seem far better which I guess makes perfect sense when you consider they have fine tuned it over many years to make it a solid sports car..it seems that formula works very well
