LAMBORGHINI JALPA
Discussion
what are they like? saw this one www.pistonheads.com/sales/121452.htm in the classifieds and thought it looked rather tasty (and it is also in the same country which is handy, but new nothing about them. Quite like the idea of a classic 'plaything' and had been toying with the idea of an e-type, how would they compare? would parts/service be considerably more for the Lambo? what about future values?
Thanks for any advice

I go on www.lamborghini-talk.com for technical info. There is a Swiss chap on there, called Raymond, that knows far too much about the Jalpa and Countach. He also runs two sites: www.jalpa.ch and www.countach.ch. He seems to permanently be on the site and is pretty quick to reply to questions. Though it can be a little US focused.
I've had mine nearly a year and it has been a lot less trouble than I thought. The only real blight has been a failed seal on the clutch master cylinder. Its a known and well documented problem. It is a $7 part, (but $60 shipping) and will take a day to fix if you're slow, like me.
For other parts, I found it better to stay away from the official dealers. Parts can be purchased quite reasonably from the US, I principally use www.lambostuff.com. Example: new washer bottle was $92, or £250 from Manchester. I wouldn't mind but the parts come from the factory.
If you have any specific questions, post them here and I'll try to answer them.

Thanks for the links, I will look them up (the one for labostuff didnt seem to work?)
I am interested really in what the car is like as an ownership proposition, what are the main things to watch out for, what are servicing costs like or is it possible to do most things yourself? How is the body work, is it fragile, any known issues, etc. Also interested in what prices are doing, what is the normal price range for a car and are they firm, likely to go up/down
Cheers

I found some old magazines, whilst moving house, going back to 1990. 2nd hand Jalpas seem to of been around the GBP20K mark for the last 15+ years.
As long as you get a good one, just like any old car, it should cost you servicing, etc. The depreciation curve has bottomed out now.
They are a very simple car as there is nothing too complicated in there. A later car is easy to work on, as there is a panel fitted so you can reach the front spark plugs. Otherwise there is nothing complex in there.
There are some very nice examples for sale on UK Lamborghini Club site: www.lamborghiniclubuk.com/ At least you know it'll of been well looked after. Have a look on www.Jalpa.ch there is a list of fairly common problems there and how to fix them. Also look at www.classicdriver.com if you insist on a LHD example.

That looks quite nice actually, prefer the Pantera look but they are very closely matched.
The Jalpa in black would look very very good.

There is a black UK car for sale on the LOC website.
The same car is on EBay now. Looks very nice in the ad.
Well worth a look.
Maybe things have changed, but a Lambo trader - Colin Heaney (sic) - anyone come across him? told me back in 1998 when I enquired about a Jalpa he had for sale that it would take longer to sell it than the 964 RS I was also considering. I bought the RS but still liked (& like) the Jalpa. Dashboard is seriously dated though isn't it? RS took me a week to sell BTW
