Better driving means lower insurance

That's the promise of Ride Drive's scheme

Pay less for your insurance
Pay less for your insurance
You could pay less for your insurance if you take a Ride Drive driving course and show acceptable improvement in your driving skills.

According to the advanced driving techniques school, the scheme works like this:

  • Complete any Ride Drive programme that spans a full day or more.
  • If Ride Drive is happy that the customer has developed to a standard whereby they represent a low risk level, that will allow entry onto the scheme.
  • The successful candidate, at the time his or her policy is up for renewal, will then need to telephone Adrian Flux Insurance the Ride Drive scheme hotline and whatever they have been quoted on their renewal notice, Adrian Flux will better the price by 25 per cent.
  • Providing the candidate remains claim-free, the discount applies to every renewal of policy thereafter.

Julian Smith, Director at Ride Drive Limited, said: “For years I have been relentlessly knocking on insurance company doors trying to find one to not only accept that developing driving skills to an advanced level equates to a significantly reduced level of risk, but who were prepared to reward those who voluntarily develop their skills by offering a substantial discount against their insurance premiums. This has now been achieved, and through a new partnership between Ride Drive and Adrian Flux Insurance, whether on four-wheels or on two, the motorist can now earn an impressive 25 per cent discount from the normal annual premium rate.”

Craig Darwin, spokesman for Adrian Flux insurance said: “There is a strong public perception that insurance industry is always taking and never giving, as can be seen here, is not the case. We have taken the innovative approach to reward those motorists who are prepared to raise their skill level through successfully completing the Ride Drive programme, as we feel this demonstrates a healthy driver attitude towards road safety and responsible driving.

“We want this to be totally transparent. If we can build up a pool of customers who are not making claims then that will be the great success we are hoping for, which means we can afford to reduce annual premiums for those who support the scheme.”

The only issue I have with this is the fact that Adrian Flux are involved. I have had enough of this company to last me a lifetime. Poor customer service, employees that don't know their ar5e from their elbow & the most shocking administration I have ever experienced.

Rant over.

Apart from the rant I like the idea!

What happens if you are already with Adrian Flux? Will they drop their own renewal quote by 25%?

yes
I've never insured with them, mainly because of people I know who have.

If this was a mainstream insurer, I'd jump at it. As it's A-F, I'll wait.

Never had a problem with Adrian Flux.

Only moved to a better quote after several years.

Where does age come into this?

From the passplus website:
"Age doesn’t matter – it’s basically down to a lack of driving experience."

It hardly seems worth it; I’m 38 with 7 years no claims and it only costs about £500 per year to insure my Cerbie through Privilege for 10,000 miles driving including business usage.

Is this deal back dated to those of us who have done RideDrive courses in the past?

But you'll be getting the driver training out of it too.

Did you ever have to deal with them or did you just give them money once a year?

Another one that wouldn't touch it because of AF.

It sems expensive, 8 ours driving tuition for £300, thats over £30/hour, over 50% more than a driving instrcutor why, surely if ou are booking ull days you shoudl get a discount???

Also small print (as it apears in the storey) you keep the £25% off each year until you make a claim, so you pay them £300 then some numpty hits your parked ar and drives off, not only your excess to pay but also £300 down the spout.

Also (I am being sily hear but this is how I read it) so they knock you 25% off your renewal each renewal until you make a claim so

1st year £800 to £600
2nd £600 to £450
3rd £450 to £340 etc. so you wil end up paying about £50 after 10 years???? I think not!

Same here. Had my everyday car insured with them for £1200. Got a quote for my Holden for £4k odd where Footman James came in at £800 fully comp for the same vehicle eek So I rang back again to cancel my existing policy with them and the person on the phone was rude because I was taking my business elsewhere. So I complained directly to the MD in writing and asked him in the letter to cancel my policy and return any funds owed to me. They then presented me with a bill for £250 when they owed me £170 back again mad

I would rather not drive a car than have to endure that experience with them again, it's not the prices, it's the principle.

It just sounds to me like two companies getting together and coming up with a scheme to get more customers for eachother, end of. What a load of old b0ll0x!!

I've had quotes from Flux and co and they are just so expensive. How they can justify being double and treble the price of the best quote i can get elsewhere is beyond me and simply 'highway robbery'. They must see you coming from a mile off.

And as has already been said....the people on the phone there don't have a bloody clue and must walk around all day with their thumbs up their ar5e5 because they sound so thick!!

What's required is an insurance company specially for pertrolheads, run by petrolheads. That way you're speaking to someone that not only understands plain english, but when you say to them, i have a Noble M12 or Litchfield Type25 they know exactly what you're talking about.

Not the reply i got from the call centre person i spoke to at Flux's one day last year that said.... I don't know what one of those is....i'll have to look it up. And they specialise in quotes for performance cars.....They wouldn't know one if it ran them over!!

Oh Pleeeeeeease!!! punch

To be fair to AF they quoted me a good £300 cheaper on the Griff than the next nearest company, although they wanted a different alarm fitted as said the TVR alarm wasn't CAT1 (which I found out later to be true, mine isn't)

Another hand in the air for sketchy AF 'service'. You may be sent a bit of paper that appears to be a cover note that satisfies producers and gets you tax but the laughs on you if you think you have cover!

These discounts never come true either. If you get a quote and mention you are part of one of the clubs/schemes they claim to discount they arrive at figure 'x'. If you get a quote without mentioning the schemes/clubs they arrive at x. If you then mention the clubs/schemes they just claim they factored them in anyway.

This is just some cheap marketing.

Insurance company helping the motorist, yea right. My company factors in hire car and loss of license. Said I didn't want either but no choice, no discount!

Their customer service is rubbish mate. From my experience anyway.

I have a relative that works for them, and even they couldn't get me a quote because I was "only" 21 at the time, and was driving a beast of a standard 2.2 astra coupe that was apparently too high-a-risk...

Idiots!

And I have asked for email quote for new car numerous times since, with absolutely no reply. When phoning I'm kept on hold all the time... I'd never go with them.
