Virgin Media PC Guard

Having become a Virgin Media user today, ex NTL, I thought I'd give their free PC Guard software a try. Doh! Should have known better.

It insisted on a reboot after installing (alarm bells ringing already) and then it froze when logging on again, loading the "Setup" program for PC Guard. After 20 mins waiting for it to do something, I gave it a three finger salute and killed the application, but it wouldn't die. Not I can't get rid of it at all, I tried rebooting into safe mode to remove the software but it comes up with an error, basically telling me I cannot remove the software in Safe Mode - b*gger me, I thought that was what Safe Mode was for!

I can't stop the software from trying to load and hanging, and I can't uninstall it. Really hacked off with this, I'm probably going to have to go back to a previous save point to get my computer working again.

Yes, try System Restore... it might work.

Lesson of the day: If it ain't broke... don't tinker.

Yes, I SO know that, I just don't know what I was thinking. Seduced by the lure of free anti-Spyware of all things. I've been sick, in hospital for a week with a liver infection, I think it's spread to my brain now!

There was a restore point, and restoring to it worked.

F8 on windows start, Safe Mode with Command Prompt, windowssystem32 estore strui.exe, away you go.
