Just wondering if any of you lucky 997 GT3 owners actually have any problem driving in traffic as inferred in Autocar today ??
Is the clutch weight really an issue, or just a bit heavier than other 997's ??
Can't say I've heard this mentioned before so was assuming/hopeing it was just a bit of nit-picking !

Cheers.

I saw the road test and was a bit surprised by that comment. The 997GT3 is a pussy cat in traffic

Obviously the clutch is firmer than a Boxster, but it's certainly not heavy. The short-shift is notchy when cold, but very precise when warm. The throttle control and low speed torque are creamy-smooth.

I suppose the 'club sport' spec'd cars feel a bit more compromised for day to day use, with the fixed buckets and half cage, and the front splitter's a bit low.

Also, I reckon their MPSCs must have been pretty worn, as they're actually surprisingly good in the wet - shame they have such a short life.

Doubt the clutch is different to the previous model, so a bit heavy, but not bad if you don't push it all the way to the floor, but just beyond the release point. Spares your clutch too that way.

A tad heavier in the 997 GT3 then in my previous 997 C2S but not a drama by any stretch of the imagination.

No indication given as to the amount of miles the car has done, but with the majority no doubt racked up with ham fisted journalists behind the wheel, the clutch will have been subject to no end of standing starts and general abuse, a recipe for a heavy clutch if ever there was one..........

Fortunately I don't find myself in traffic very often in mine but when I do, I have no problems with the clutch. It is perfectly smooth and not particularly heavy. The tester is obviously used to driving a 1600cc Renault or something !

The 997GT3 is not a car designed for driving in heavy traffic but makes a pretty good job of it and is very tractable around town.

The only other non issue I have dicovered is turning your body round in the bucket seats to look through the back window when reversing !

Agree with everyone else. No probs at all with clutch - which feels very similar to my previous 997S to me. Whole drive train silky smooth and very easy to trundle round town. MSCs superb in the wet - although, obviously, like any car with wide tyres, long tracts of standing water on motorways can be a prob.

I don't like these 'definitive' road tests by Autocar where they don't reveal who did the testing. IMO they've got a couple of pretty good testers on the team but I wouldn't give the rest of them house room, so I'd like to know who's opinion I'm actually reading. I notice that, yet again, they seem to think that the £3k buckets are free with the Clubsport package. BTW as you know part of the Clubsport spec. is that the car is 'prepared' for a cutout switch. Care to guess how much Porsche quoted me for the switch? - £520!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the kind offer, although I think it'll take a bit more than a heavy clutch to put me off !! Besides it's all spec'd up now for hopefully next month delivery. amd can't deny the excitement level is building nicely.

Lucky bugger!

I was at my local OPC last Saturday as my father told me they had a new 997 GT3 in full white. Sure enough they did, though it was covered with one of the sales guys very unwilling to remove the cover. Ten minutes later I could see why as the owner pitched up (with fully possey!) and I had to sit there and watch with total envy as the sod drove it away! It looked stunning in white with white wheels and much better than I had expected actually. Lovely car, I am sure it will provide some real driving thrills.

They even complained that the rear rollover bar was inconvenient.

However, it would be churlish to complain at a review that summarised that, there weren't enough stars ?

My only surprise was that it wasn't a tad faster.

Not like Porsche to over-egg the pudding, so maybe the car was in need of a little TLC.

Drove a GT3 just before xmas, it was the Porsche public demo car , not the one the press use with the GB no plate,it had just 700 miles up.
With my job, a garage owner I must drive 30 to 40 different cars a week, so have a bit of previous to judge it against if you know what I mean.
I can tell you that the 997 GT3 is beautifull to drive in trafic or anywhere for that matter, the clutch is definately not heavy, gearbox very slightly notchy when cold, but will loosen with some miles no doubt, soon smoothed out when it was warm.
I think these roadtesters just need something to write sometimes, they must run out of things to say.
If you have one on order I wouldnt cancel it,you wont be disappointed.

These people are normally driving people carriers and rep-mobiles. Does that answer your question?

The clutch is fine.

Quite. Clutch fine, drivetrain fine, throttle modulation excellent - unnamed tester/testers either drove a car with problems (charitable view) or shouldn't be doing the job.

Dan - can you expand on this comment with a little more technical detail?

My delivery is due in April. My excitement was also building up until this week when i was told my job was being made redundant mad
Anyway i'm over the initial shock and am hoping that in two months time i'll have something else secured jobwise.
Does anyone have any contacts in the motor trade? I'm looking for an Accountants position in Lancashire preferably at a dealership.
