Dim dip

Have trawled through the site and thought I'd found the cure to no side lights when the ignition is on, just dipped beam, returns to side lights when ignition off. All I found on the car was an extra relay piggy backed to the lighting control box. And the dim dip and side light wires joined together at the dim dip control box! Seperating them leaves me without dipped beam altogether.

Anyone know of a Cerb friendly Auto electrician in the North East? Or suggestions as to what to replace first.

The advantage of a TVR specialist is that they may have come across the same problem before, so it will be quicker, but I would think that any decent Auto electrician should be able to trace the fault and fix it.

Lemme get this straight, when the ignition is off, you get sidelights. Turn ignition on and you only get dipped beam (no sidelights)?

Sounds like a useful mode of operation to me. What am I missing?

I had a problem with mine of no dipped beams or rear fog (only full and side) and it ended up being one of the releys in the light control box: there are 6 of them in there. from the sounds of the piggy-backed relay, my guess is one of the relays inside the box went and this was an attempt at a fix. if you open the box you can test the relays with a 9volt battery. the 9volts have just the right spacing to cross the main contacts on the relays and you can hear them switch.

problem i had was i couldn't replace the broken relay because i could not find a replacement. they are pcb mounted so you'd need a soldering iron to replace it. i ended up getting a new box in the end. i've kept the old one as its basically 5 spare relays.

Ignition off switch on side lights they come on, switch to dipped headlights, side lights stay on, no dipped headlights. I assume this is correct. Main beam flash only.
Switch ignition on, turn on side lights, dipped headlights come on at 12volts (not dim dip). Turn switch to headlights no change, still dipped headlights. Main beam operates switching on and off as required.

Have traced units / wiring and it appears I have no signal to the dim dip unit to on the dipped beam wire (blue yellow). I would assume this comes from the lighting ECU but not sure.

I am now seriously thinking of replacing all three lighting units and returning the loom to its original state, though I have only seen two of the three units available.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.
