The 3.2, due its 12k service, is duly booked in. MOT required as well, and some work on the exhaust required for a pass as there's a split in one of the manifolds, apparently. Other bits and bobs needing attention. Technician phones me today and says it's going to be around £2500.

That's a lot of money for me, but I bet it's nothing compared to some bills posters on here have had.

So the question is, excluding upgrades (you bring that on yourself!), what's the biggest service or necessary repair bill you've had?

JZ Machtech. There's a LOT of work needs doing, including very rusty inner front wings to sort out!

RS been having a thorough fettling over the winter. Big service + new brakes + new tyres + new windscreen + front-end repaint + wheel refurb = circa £6k

But the car is so good I couldn't give a damn :-)

Necessary as in something no longer working, or close to worn out. As I said, you bring upgrades on yourself!

stepfather had his 944S2 serviced at an OPC who decided to investigate a "slight knocking sound" from the engine bay - 2 new camshafts later his minor service had cost £4k.

Perhaps an equally relevant question to ask would be the biggest service in relation to the value of the car in percentage terms. A 4k bill on an 80K turbo is bad enough. a 4K bill on a 944s2 was, at the time, equivalent to about 33% of the value of the car

no surprise there then - 1st service for my C2 with them was £1k

since then I take my car to Jaz Porsche in Wembley - even a service including new clutch was only £100 more

IMO JZM are just as expensive as an OPC

If you need any new engine parts for rebuilds/major service items, I can recommend ebsracing in the states. When I over-revved my 964RS engine, I sourced several upgraded valve train components from them, which were i) far higher quality than the OEM sh1te, ii) cheaper (inc exchange rate, tax and duty, etc) iii) able to allow the engine being 'buzzed' probably once more w/o doing any damage (e.g. titanium valve caps, double 'race' springs, better quality valves, etc, etc.... ebsracing.com - worth a look.

It allowed me to bring the bill down to around £5000 - but that also included splitting the crankcase, fitting ARP rod bolts, new big end shells, lockwiring the notorious oil pump, etc, etc

I got RMS and Clutch done for the same price as just the RMS would have been at my local OPC (I know there is a big saving getting them done at the same time). Hourly rate is roughly half the OPC rate.

Debating whether to go to JAZ next time though, as they are a lot easier to get to/from for me.

I know several people from this board who take their cars there, a number of which make my RS look humble...
